Ordered 2 Set Lunches:1) Assorted Chirashi Sushi (on rice) : There's frozen Hokkigai 北寄貝 and big thick piece of Octopus on the rice, also a sweet prawn, the tell-tale sign of Hong Kong-nised chirashi sushi. This wasn't my dish so I didn't observe 100% what was in the sushi bowl, but I was told there's barely a slice of Urchin in this $90 set, compared to what others

Ordered 2 Set Lunches:
1) Assorted Chirashi Sushi (on rice) :
There's frozen Hokkigai 北寄貝 and big thick piece of Octopus on the rice, also a sweet prawn, the tell-tale sign of Hong Kong-nised chirashi sushi. This wasn't my dish so I didn't observe 100% what was in the sushi bowl, but I was told there's barely a slice of Urchin in this $90 set, compared to what others had before. What's worst - there was a bit of Ikura salmon roes which I tasted and it was super fishy to the point of inedible - this was the most fishy Ikura I've had in my entire life. Friend did not finish this obviously.
The cabbage salad with cooked tuna and corn that came as part of this meal was also bitter, the sauce was way off balance as it was too soya like. Wasn't pleasant at all.
2) Curry Katsu-don
Laughable. The batter used on the pork wasn't even Japanese variety panko crumbs, it was Hong Kong style bread crumbs used for frying drumsticks. Pork was quite thick, but despite this overly dry and no juice.
The curry wasn't very Japanese in taste either. May be too much starchy vegetables used for thickening purposes - it was slightly too sweet, but no aroma or depth. Not upto standard.
The half boiled egg wasn't cooked too well, it was undercooked and messy - the sauce/broth it was sitting in wasn't Japanese harmonised in taste as it was over-powering. This 'onsen tamago' isn't even 40% of what next door 道's much better cooked one.
The rice was overly wet as well. Funny thing is, IF SOMEONE COMPARES MY KATSU CURRY DON WITH WHAT OTHERS HAD BEFORE, EVEN THE PRESENTATION AND THE CURRY HAS DEFINITELY GOTTEN WORST.
The meals came with sesame ice-creams, which were quite ok.
I suspect there must have been big changes in the kitchen here or something, as there is no way that the Hong Kongnised Japanese food I had here was the same as what everyone else described. I don't really mind if a Chinese person cooks Japanese food, as long as its good, I don't even mind a bit of fusion thrown in - but mine and my friend's experience suggested, we shall never go back again, as the food was downright poor.
A mid to high '2' at most.
