Not feeling too full, we wanted sinethr small for dinner. I went to this original location in 2009 after watching the episode in No Reservations where Anthony Bourdain visited Hong Kong. After researching his blog, I came to this street side noodle shop that had a lot of charm. Run by two muscular brothers who were obsessed with weight lifting, they had put photos of various muscled men, including Arnold Schwarzenegger during his Mr. Universe years and Hulk Hogan, all over the walls. And the beef was tender. The noodles had bite. All eaten in the hot non air conditioned room.
Now, the shop has moved across the street into a bright clean well air conditioned restaurant. The pictures on the walls were gone, though the tables had small photos of these men. The menu was now nicely written with cute emoticons all over. And they had more staff. Not just the two brothers cooking away.
I ordered the beef brisket noodles. Portion size was decent amount. Beef was tender. Noodles were the right amount of al dente. It was only $28.
Boyfriend ordered the beef lo mein for $40. This was good. Very hearty.
The place only serves bottled drinks. So if you want an lemon tea, it's from a bottle.
Though the original charm of the restaurant is gone, the muscle man owner is still there. Friendly and still full of character. And the beef brisket? It's still good as before. Because as Anthony Bourdain said...who better to understand the muscles of an animal than a man obsessed with building his own muscle.
