I was intrigued by the concept of Brazilian ingredients with Japanese cooking techniques, and we went on a Wednesday evening to check it out. It was only two of us and we turned up at 8pm. Luckily they found us a small table as they do not take reservations and the restaurant was quite busy. I’ll just say here that the service was excellent, and the staff were friendly and helpful with questions about the food and drinks. The selection of drinks and dishes are somewhat unique, all listed in a wooden backed menu that folds out like a pack of playing cards. Not that it makes much difference if the food is bad, but it’s a nice touch. Thankfully, the food was good. The menu has a good selection without being overwhelming. The drinks menu had variations of classic Brazilian drinks like caipirinha, and the ones we had (a passion fruit one and a coconut one) were great.
Overall, the food was very good but not outstanding. The deep-fried chicken & okra dumplings were fine, but forgettable, relying too much on the spicy sauce that came with the dish to give them flavour. The grilled portobello mushrooms on skewers were full of flavour and were my favourite dish of the meal. The pear salad had an interesting tangy spicy dressing, similar to the yuzu dressing you find on some Japanese salads. We went with one of the specials that night - grilled hamachi with sweet potato. Again, it was well cooked, well presented and nice to eat.
