I was thankful that our company gave us free days off for Chinese New Year Day 5-7 so we could try this Conrad X Salvatore Ferragamo Fragrance-Inspired Afternoon Tea on a weekday last Friday. The setting was classy and we were excited to see the Ferragamo red blinking at us. The food was all bite-sized like their afternoon tea buffet which meant the set had 14 items. We were first served with tea and scones. The warm and moist scones were tasty even though the traditional version tasted a bit like milk powder.
Then the much anticipated 3-tier afternoon tea delicacy was presented with a grosgrained vara bow. It was exciting even though the glass rack wasn't too elegant. We started with the sandwiches and worked our way up. There were 4 sandwiches, 2 spoonfuls of salad and cheese and a crostini in the middle tier and the top were desserts.
We liked the Italian Ham & Black Truffle with parsley pesto and Marinated Salmon & Salmon Roe with red cabbage, pickled cucumber, chives, sour cream but the Red Tuna Carpaccio & Guacamole with lavender flowers, cocoa nibs and Smoked Eel & Duck Foie Gras Pate with champion mushrooms, vin Santa gelatin, spinach tasted a bit fishy.
Onto the Florence-themed savories were Classic Panzanella, the spoonful vinegared salad and Pappa al Pomodoro with Burrata Cheese, which were fun to taste in a mouthful while the Sauteed Porcini Mushroom Crostini was interesting.
Finally, desserts. I started with Jasmine Panna Cotta with pink pepper, red currant jelly, rose foam and frankly I didn't like the foam texture on the panna cotta even though I personally liked foam on cappuccino. It felt weird although the panna cotta tasted good. The Eleganza Tart with grapefruit, pear, almond and Lychee & Rose Financier with white chocolate mousse, rose petal were good too.
I saved Madagascar Vanilla Mousse with blackberry compote, orange blossom, the edible Signoria Misteriosa and Salvatore Ferragamo Signorina Macaroon with tonka beans, chocolate in Signorina's pink for last. They are too pretty to eat.
Overall, food was not too impressive and service was slow and inattentive. Servers were talking loud at the bar, kept giving us only two sets of afternoon tea sets and two tea infusers when we were a trio and teapots were not refilled without asking.
We got two 5ml complimentary samples, Signorina Eleganza and Aqua Essenziale Colonia and a one-time 20% discount, duty-free price voucher so I treated myself to a bottle of beautiful Signorina afterward. It was an effective way to promote perfume but it was unfortunate that the service of a five-star hotel was so not five-star.
