Boyfriend met me for breakfast and we headed to the Cooked Food Centre near my home for breakfast. One of the many places in the center, 昌記 (English name: Cheong Kee) is always full of people. Offering classic Hong Kong style dishes, they seem to be famous for their thick toast.It's your normal cooked food center setting. Menu is in Chinese only. There is no 10% service charge. Breakfast time they offer the usual Hong Kong style breakfasts.
Boyfriend had the macaroni for $36. He chose satay beef and pork cubes. I felt the satay beef lost it's flavor when placed into the soup. I have no idea why he always chooses that one. The pork cubes were ok.
I had the macaroni as well and chose soysauce chicken wings and fried fish cakes ($36). The macaroni sets have a lot of topping choices. The macaroni was the big thick kind which I like. The chicken wings were nicely marinaded. The fish cakes were thickly cut.
We added $3 for a hot drink and I had hot Hong Kong style milk tea. I was surprised they used the Lipton cups! So many places use the Black and White cups. It was ok. You can tell they used Lipton tea bags.
As this place is famous for the thick toast, we ordered one to share ($17). You can choose what spread you want with their most popular spread being condensed milk sprinkled with sugar. I'm a peanut butter girl so we had peanut butter with condensed milk. The toast was awesome! As high as half my finger. Fluffy on the inside. Crispy on the outside. FANTASTIC!
Service was exceptionally good and friendly. Place was decently clean. I live close enough. I usually do come back.
