On this Saturday morning we went to caffè habitu for breakfast and specifically chose the Leighton branch because it opens at 10 (allegedly). This is located on the second floor of a Sasa Supreme store. As we arrived in front of Sasa, the doors were open and the shop looked ready for business, so we didn't hesitate to use their escalator to go up to the first floor. Half-way through the escalator and we were being screamed at by an auntie. Turned out to be a Sasa store staff. She screamed so loudly that it hurt my ears and her attitude was terrible, yelling non-stop when I asked whether we could wait inside. She insisted that we go back down to wait outside even if it was 9:57. We obeyed grudgingly.

After three minutes of standing under the burning sun, we went upstairs, only to find that caffè habitu was not ready to serve its customers. All of the lights were switched off and there was no sign that anyone would greet us any time soon. I double-checked their opening hours online. It was not until ten minutes later that we were seated in the empty restaurant. The waiting staff was courteous, but he was absent-minded and the napkin he served along with the utensils had one corner dipped in dirt/coffee/chocolate (which was no big deal but still). But when I asked whether they were open at 10, the waiter nodded and didn't think it necessary to apologize for opening up late.

We ordered a walnut and apple salad with blue cheese and eggs benedict for my friend and an all-day breakfast for me. The eggs benedict came with half a plate of rocket. There were also tiny cuts of cherry tomatoes in the salad. I had some of the walnut salad which was again mostly rocket, with two slices of blue cheese, a few cuts of cherry tomatoes and a handful of walnuts. The walnuts were sweet and crunchy, and tasted very nice. The salad was slightly underdressed, but pungent blue cheese, crunchy walnuts and crisp apples are a lovely combination. My all-day breakfast was also okay, with fluffy scrambled egg, portobello and typical British sausages. The baked beans were not hot enough; I suspect they'll need to leave it in the microwave for longer than 30 seconds. The smoked salmon was fresh.

Thr whole experience was mostly ruined by the grumpy auntie downstairs at the Sasa store, otherwise the cafe was quiet and remained relatively empty even as we left at around half 12. So if you are looking for a quiet place to have breakfast in Causeway Bay, this might be a good choice.
