This teppanyaki restaurant is located in Wanchai Convention Plaza, and with the government announced the no dine-in after 6pm we had changed our booking to lunch hour instead. The staff reminded us that they would receive customers early at 11:45am, so we came early.
We had reserved the seats in front of the teppanyaki station, and the restaurant took good measure to ensure the appropriate space between customers, offering a good sense of comfort for us. The decor is nice, with luxurious ambience but there was also a bit of dated feeling.
Ordering the Lunch Set Matsu ($600 each) and Assorted Sashimi Matsu ($880). Before starting on the lunch set we enjoyed the sashimi first. The set had a wide range of different fresh seafood, including Shimaaji, Kinmedai, Hamachi, Maguro, Ootoro, Hotategai, Akagai, Ebi and Abalone. All the sashimi are of thick cut and very good, and really of great quality. A good addition to the teppanyaki.
The first course of the set was Salad. No surprise and decent.
The second course was Grilled Salmon. The chef had grilled the fish nicely, while I would prefer to add a bit of lemon juice, it was still very good.
With the choice of King Prawn and Scallop, we ordered one each so that we could share. The king prawn had a great texture, firm and crunchy on the bite, with a sweet taste from the prawn meat. The scallop is nicely seared on the outside, while the interior was moist and soft, again cooked to perfection.
The fourth course was Japanese Beef, with us opting for fillet mignon. I requested for medium rare level and the chef had delivered that perfectly. The quality of the meat was impeccable, and the chef also used a piece of bread to soak up the juice and oil to avoid messing up the plate, and provided plenty of deep-fried garlic to accompany the beef. Very good.
The fifth course was Fried Vegetables. This was always one of my favorites in teppanyaki as it was difficult to stir-fry the bean sprouts as well at home without such high heat plate. The seasoning was also very nice, with the black pepper giving a great fragrance and taste. The only comment was that it was a bit messy on the plate when served.
Finishing we had chosen Fried Rice, served together with Miso Soup and Pickles. Seeing the chef prepared the egg and then mixing with the rice, and then further adding the other ingredients was a real treat of showmanship, and the presentation and flavors were both top-notch.
On dessert there was the choice of Fresh Fruit or Ice-cream, and I opted for Sea Salt Ice-cream. No frill, it was a good finale to a nice teppanyaki.
The bill was $2,288 and the services were also good, with the staff coming to change our plate when needed and overall friendly. But I wished the chef could have a bit more interactions with the customers to introduce the food, and that would make the whole experience even better. But still this is in my opinion one of the better teppanyaki restaurants in town.
