At the very heart of Wan Chai housed the cozy feeling of The Oyster House, an Italian-themed restaurant whose name suggests – this place is a premier destination for Hong Kong’s ardent oyster lovers. The Oyster House invites diners to relax in a warm and intimate environment and enjoy home-styled Italian cuisine. This widely popular restaurant also boasts some of Hong Kong’s most refined wine and beer, all complimented to the different types of oysters, flown specially from oyster-growing regions such as France, Spain, South Africa, Canada and the USA. I brought my girlfriend over to enjoy our own cosy moment and to enjoy some good food in a cosy environment. Shop's lighting was dim, with candles placed on every table to increase the atmosphere. Their menu is quite extensive in the sense that they sell mostly seafood and meat. For carnivore lovers, this is a place not to be missed. Once we were seated, we were immediately presented with a basket of complimentary bread. Olive oil & balsamic vinegar was placed together in the same bottle, creating an artistic effect. When ate alone, the bread was a tad too dry and cold. A good olive oil & vinegar is a good compliment to a good bread; healthier than butter. They bring out the life of a normal looking bread. Waiter recommend me to go for white wine as it will blend nicely with the oysters and steak. Without hesitation, i go for their house white wine. It was light on the throat, easy to swallow. Here comes the first dish on table. Oyster was definitely on our mind, if not we will not come to this place without trying their most popular dish. We ordered 6 oysters, 2 pieces each for different types. We tried Willapa Bay (USA), Rollex (South Africa) & Belon (France). The way of eating oysters is mostly the same as other places, providing us with tabasco and their own in-house sauce.
The manager taught us the way of eating oysters, from Willapa Bay (USA), Rollex (South Africa) to Belon (France) in order. In this way, it will bring out the real taste of the oysters. Willapa Bay oyster is lightly salty and delicate, as pure sea as you get in a Pacific oyster. Rollex oyster filled the shell and felt like a butter melting in your mouth. The flavour was very long-lasting. Belon oysters are round in shape, with very flat shells. It tastes of iodine as well as its firm flesh, light, nutty flavour. Next comes our next appetizers - French blue mussels. It was cooked in white wine garlic and cream sauce. It has very strong garlic smell and really compliment nicely with the fresh mussels. Only comment is the sauce was a bit salty. My main course will be US Angus Rib Eye steak. It was made chargrilled, served with vegetables and mashed potatoes with black pepper sauce. When i ask to be served medium well, the manager recommended me to go for 50% done as it still retains the redness of the steak, without any blood leaking out too. Rib eye is known for its rich flavor. They are tender and tasty, mainly because of the abundant of fat that they contain. Lastly, we ordered banoffee pie as desserts. They used fresh banana, caramel sauce on biscuit, topped with vanilla whipping cream. The firm, buttery biscuit base has very strong caramel taste, served with fresh soft banana. It is the perfect dessert for descerning diners.
