So, where to begin.I am an absolute fan of afternoon tea, to the point of seeking a new tea place once per week...I've been to Alice's Tea Cup in NYC and Lovejoy's Tea Parlor in San Francisco and the British Tea in the National Restaurant and Galleries in England. Hubby and I were walking down Peel Street from the Mid-Levels when I spotted this purple room to one side of the sloping street. A tea place, I marveled.
The next day, we decided to make a reservation for 4:30. Upon arrival, there was some fumbling about and confusion, and needless to say, our reservation had been lost. We wandered the neighborhood aimlessly for a while and came back around 4:50. Being as there was still no table available, they moved 2 chairs outside and gave us some water. I will admit I was a bit, er, irritated at this point. Thankfully at around 5:10 we were able to go in.
I was feeling much more amenable after 2 complimentary peach proseccos found their way into the apology. We ordered a ladies tea and a gentleman's tea, savoury and sweet tea for two. The utensils and tea sets were interestingly manifested. Food arrived on schedule.
The savory included a mini hamburger slider and pesto salmon pita triangles. These were to die for. The rose infused oven hot scones were the best I've had so far in HK, hands down. Jam and cream, in due measure were good quality. The truffled popover and the mushroom filo pastry tartlette didn't hurt, nor did the 6-7 excellent quality sweets including raspberry cheesecake, mango mousse, portuguese egg tart, and rose macaron. Everything was decidedly excellent.
We took our time and enjoyed ourselves. I would recommend this tea place to others and would go back again.
