My bf and I went there for a late Valentines dinner (Saturday night). We wanted to sample good steak in HK. We had been to the Intercontinental Hotel Steak House before and were impressed, but wanted to find another good steak house for a fraction of the price. We were pleased with the service and the food at Ruth's Chris Steak House. We ordered and were greeted with a round of white bread and butter. We ordered and were greeted with a round of white bread and butter. I ordered a New York Strip and he ordered a Ribeye and lobster tail. The New York Strip was VERY good! The Ribeye was ok. The price was hurting though! He actually wanted a lobster. But at $125 plus per pound of lobster (total lobster weight was 7 to 8lbs), this was definitely a no-no! So the lobster tail made the order, which was mediocre. We didn't have sides with the beef as the price of the beef was already sky-high. We were embarrassed so we ordered a caesar salad (with no chicken) and 2 glasses of red wine (without consulting the menu). We were so full at the end of the beef round, but very pleased with both the service, the food, and the wine. The waiter tempted us with a dessert offer. We asked to see the menu knowing that we were too full to eat any more. The waiter brought over a tray of plastic imitation desserts - no price tag on these. They were very tempting. We ended up ordering an apple pie (extremely big) and shared it. BAD CHOICE! We were so full, we were bursting at the seams!
Anyway... BILL TIME - ARGH!!!!! The steak(s) and lobster were expensive. The New York Strip (16oz) was $480. The Ribeye (16oz) was $480. The lobster tail was $300. We knew the price of these as we had seen the price in the menu. We also knew the price of the salad ($80). That was ok. But the real surprise was the house red -Coastal Cabernet sauvignon ($105 per glass) and the apple pie was $85. So we ended up paying $1635 and $164 for service charge, totaling $1799. HURTING! But the food and service were excellent. We decided that this place would be a special occasion venue only. And to be visited once every 3 yrs. Or perhaps to do smart ordering.
So, if you want good steak, this is the place to go. But be prepared for high prices. Book in advance. This is a place where lots of expats go and people with money. The ambience is good. Good jazz music - Louis Armstrong in the background. Remember to order the New York Strip. If this place can make the Strip the same every time, then this is the place to go! Better than the Intercon for steak as it's slightly cheaper, but the Intercon has more frills and gimmicks hence upping the price.
