I have been here a couple times at tea time. I first stumbled onto it on a trip to the post office, which it is across the street from--not where I would've thought to look, but a nice surprise! It's great to have a Vietnamese coffee shop. Cafes were one of the big things I remember about travelling to Hanoi, but usually when it comes to Vietnamese food in HK, it's just restaurants. The atmosphere is partly industrial with the cement floor and walls, partly artsy cute with the chalk drawings a
The atmosphere is partly industrial with the cement floor and walls, partly artsy cute with the chalk drawings and flowers. It's nothing fancy, but it works. Music is always playing. The waitstaff are also friendly and helpful.
The sandwiches are nice--fresh, crunchy French baguette with a good mix of flavors from the other ingredients. I prefer the baguette with BBQ pork and Vietnamese sausage to the curry chicken one. The chicken was nice and tender, but to me the flavors work together better in the classic sandwich. I've only had the coffee that comes with a tea set, but it was good quality, not too-bitter like a lot of places. Also had a lovely fresh lime soda. I can't speak to the main dishes, as I have not been there for lunch or dinner.
The only drawback was the price. For Kowloon City, $49-59 is a bit high for a tea set. Most are in the $30-40 range. However, if you compare it to the other, Western-style cafes in the area (Ceres, Gladys Estate, etc.), prices are at least comparable and the food is better. So, you get what you pay for.
