Haven’t noticed this café received quite a number of good reviews despite being in our neighbourhood, so give it a try in a lazy Sunday afternoon. It was actually on the To Kwa Wan border with Hung Hom. The owner greeted us nicely as we stepped into the small place that seated less than 20. Almost all the seats were taken so we shared a four-seater table with a couple. Much heart and effort has been put in the décor, which was quite bookish, together with a nod to the owner’s photographer backgr

The menu offers no set meal but a range of light food, dessert and coffee. Dessert like marshmallow cracker sandwich and homemade ice-cream on waffles also caught my attention. We were especially attracted by Omelet Frittata the Classic, also ordered a cream cheese and smoked salmon bagel together with cappuccino and Americano. Apart from the owner four female staff was working in the small open kitchen. Cappuccino came first but hubby said it’s without much coffee fragrance and taste. It seemed all the tables were using only one sugar jar as the staff returned it to next to the cashier after our use. My Americano was expected to be drunk black as no spoon went with it. The flavor was a bit on the sour side which was not to my liking.

My bagel was well-balanced with smoked salmon, capers, salad greens and a hint of mustard to lift up the flavor. The bread was somewhat chewy, possibly not fresh enough. The presentation of the omelet was a contrast from the hearty portion for Spanish tapas. Made to order, it was a delicate Japanese version in a small pan. The potato and bacon was finely chopped and the crispy and fragrant egg was delectable. Somehow the tortilla was served with tiny cups of salad and pumpkin soup. Hubby frowned upon the small portions. I would prefer the tortilla to be bigger or cheaper without these sides.

We were insatiate after the meal and went home for snack. Although the place was set with a big heart, it was hard to stay long comfortably. Probably better to come on a week day for tea.
