14:25 hours:We entered at 14:25. A big, middle-aged woman with a loud and rather annoying voice at the door was trying to discourage us from entering by highlighting the fact that last order was 2:30pm and they close at 3:00pm.
I said OK.
As we entered, she again said, "We close at 3:00." That got me really annoyed.
Menu:They had a large number of faily exotic tempura to choose from. It's self-explanatory. They also had a number of lunch sets - ranged between $150-$300 ~
After speed-reading the pretty comprehensive menu, we placed our orders at 14:29 hours. We ordered "Tempura gozen" and a "Tendon". The salad for both sets came almost immediately afterwards (14:30). It was a few pieces of lettuce, tomatoes with some ponzu. Not spectacular bit no complaints.
To be fair, the chawanmushi (steamed egg) was good. It had ginko, shiitake, oba and pretty strong egg and dashi taste. That was probaby the best part of the meal.14:37 hours:
At about 14:37 hours, the tendon arrived,closely followed by my tempura gozen - which was unceremoniously placed by the male server who looked like he was suffering from some sort of bowel disorder:
When I saw them giving me salt, I immediately thought to myself: It's worth swallowing the bad service. Dipping tempura into salf is the more "professional" and "elegant" way of having tempura.Tempura: The prawns were not particularly fresh. The batter was pretty crunchy but on the oily side.
It didn't really stick on the food like it should be, the batter was falling off.The scallop with oba was good. Another item, minced prawn meat with cheese filling wrapped in bean curb was quite interesting. Otherwise, nothing else made a good impression. The fried vegetable cake was too oily.
The rice was too hard. I doubt it was Japanese rice. I really hate wasting food but unfortunately, I couldn't finish it.
Tendon:My tempura gozen, even thought it wasn't a complete disaster, was not impressive. "Ana gura" and "AgeHan" are better.
On the other hand, the tendon faired much better than the tempura gozen.
The rice, surprisingly, tasted different. Much better than mine. The tempura also looked better than mine.
Nevertheless, Agehan and Ana gura are much better.

Our drinks and the dessert came without us asking for it.
The bill came shortly afterwards.

I had my timer on. I told the woman we'd finish before 15:00 and that's what we did.

Average food. Horrible service.
No reason for returning.
If you really want to try the tendon here, I suggest ordering it when you're at Sushi Hiro or at Tori Shin...
