We visited Warren before for brunch and since they have a new dinner menu, we wanted to check it out.Their have a 3 and 4 course menu, at 390 and 430 HKD (Starter+soup+main +/dessert)We got there early at around 6:45 and snagged the last free table - do reserve in advance if you want to have dinner here! We got there early at around 6:45 and snagged the last free table - do reserve in advance if you want to have dinner here! The manager was super nice and welcomed us warmly. Unfortunately the lighting wasn't good where we were sat so my photos aren't the best. After we ordered, we were given bread with truffle butter! We also ordered a glass of Esmeralda (white wine) each by recommendation, and it's delicious!

First come the starter, I ordered the pan-seared foie gras and it was done perfectly and a great compliment with mango chutney sauce.

My sister decided to splurge an extra 40 HKD for a fresh lobster salad, which is super fresh:

Our soups arrive after - both are of top notch quality and nothing like the water downed version I've had in other western restaurant. You can smell the freshness of french onion and I love the cheesy pastry inside.

The lobster soup is so flavorsome that it's almost like a sauce!

Then the main came - my sister ordered their signature salmon confit, which is so good that it melts in the mouth! The white wine sauce is a great combination with it and they gave us some salt, too.

The iberico pork shoulder is tender and the mustard sauce really brings out the tenderness and fresh flavour, too.

Finally comes the dessert - even though I was already getting full but it's just too good not to finish.
The creme brulee cheesecake is very unique and really puts together the best of both world:

To begin the meal, I ordered the Conger Boiled Abalone for Starters. The abalones had a bouncy texture, yet it wasn’t overly chewy. It was easy on the palate and served as a good dish to open up your appetite as it wasn’t too heavy in flavour, nor was it oily in any sense.

Next came the soup, and I ordered the French Onion Soup, which I was really impressed by. Inside the soup are bits of soaked up bread. Although I don’t normally like to have overly-soaked bread, I thought that the soup itself was rich in flavour. It had bits of cheese in it too, to elevate the taste.

For mains, I ordered their signature dish, the Salmon Confit with White Wine Sauce, and this was honestly my favourite dish of the night. The salmon was slowly cooked, meaning that it managed to maintain its juiciness and its tender texture. The salmon was softer than any other salmon I’ve tried in the past, and I was enthralled by it. Coupled with the white wine sauce and the grilled vegetables, it was a match made in heaven.

Lastly, for dessert, I ordered the cheesecake. It had a good consistency and had a lot of blueberry jam to go with it. It was a nice finish to the meal.

Overall, I was impressed by the fine quality that this restaurant is able to produce. Though it may not be big in size, it certainly made up for it by the immense effort they put into each dish. Everything on the plate had its purpose and I appreciate the intricacy that went into creating these dishes. I absolutely recommend this restaurant to those looking to try French cuisine in Hong Kong.

To be brutally honest, I don't really know Tai Hang all that well, despite it's just in the backyard of Causeway Bay. Neither do I know much about our dinner venue, Warren. All I knew was that, it's a brand new French bistro on the ground floor of The Warren (a residential building presumably).

Turns out Warren wasn't the easiest place to find (even with Google Map) but when I did finally locate this little 15-seater, I was pleasantly surprised with its cozy ambiance which was a little tough to find outside Soho.
(A little apology on the poor quality of the photos since I didn't bring my usual camera with me.....)

We started things off with some homemade bread first.

It was served with some homemade truffle butter. The butter was very aromatic. Not bad.

Between the three appetizers from the set menu, I picked the pan-seared foie gras with mango chutney (tasted a bit like apricot) and port wine sauce. This was nicely done with a little bit of balsamic vinegar and crumbs for the finishing touch.

Next up was French onion soup. I have always been very picky about onion soup but this one surprised me with its sweetness. A quick chat with the restaurant manager revealed that it was the additional chicken stock that has provided the extra sweetness. Very nice.

My main course was salmon confit, supposingly a signature dish here. This turned out to be a fabulous choice for me. The "melt-in-your-mouth" salmon worked wonderfully well with white wine cream sauce and I love the daikon on the side. Very sweet and juicy!

Warren has to be one of the pleasant surprises in 2016 so far. I will definitely try to come back another time to take on their Hokkaido scallops carpaccio and Spanish pork belly.

The dinner menu is pretty straightforward with 3-course dinner costing $330 or a more satisfying 4-course dinner for $380.

Chardonnay

Nothing beats a relaxing weekend night with a glass of wine. Their chardonnay is sharp and quite light in sweetness, a perfect drink to pair with seafood.

Both of their baguette and rye bread had been toasted until light crunch. The housemade aromatic truffle butter just melted on the warm toast. Balsamic vinegar and olive oil were also served on the side for you to dip your bread in!

Pan seared tuna & tuna tartar with yuzu dressing

A tuna x tuna combination with lightly seared and nicely seasoned tuna pieces, with some fatty tuna tartar tower on top of some chopped avocado, super thinly sliced cucumber, yuzu wedges, with drops of sticky aged balsamic vinegar and olive oil.

First of all, the seared tuna pieces were perfectly cooked and seasoned to the right point with a fresh firm texture and bright pink colour. Moving on to the tartar tower, the chopped up moist tuna pieces blended beautifully with the ripe creamy avocado. Since the serving size was pretty generous for this fatty appetiser, the yuzu and balsamic vinegar kind of counterbalanced with their citric taste. It was indeed a very nicely constructed dish and I highly recommend you to try it out yourself.

French onion soup

A classic French soup to indulging. Two pieces of bread were put on top of the soup filled with softly boiled sweet onion, and a layer of savoury cheese. The amount of cheese was not too over the top but still gave a nice stringy cheesy taste, the onion was also not too overly softened until mashy, while the bread absorbed all the sweet soup.

Salmon confit with white wine sauce

Salmon is a very healthy kind of fish packed with good old omega-3. The fillet had been prepared sous vide for 20 mins until just lightly cook all the way through. It was almost in between raw and cooked, sitting on top of a bed of creamy runny white wine sauce, sided with some veggies with heart including a piece of sundried tomato, baby carrot, beans, broccoli, and a piece of specially prepared sweet radish!

The doneness was just on point! The salmon just fell apart with flakes and they just melted in your mouth in no time. The smooth has just got smoother when you enjoy it with the creamy sauce. This dish should be good for kids and elderly.

Hand-drip coffee

Lastly, you may choose to have either tea or hand-drip coffee. As a coffee person, it was a no-brainer. It's so surprising to see restaurants offering hand drip coffee after a meal. The aroma of the coffee flavour was nice with a light char taste. From the good quality of their stainless steel kettle, you can see the heart and passion of this restaurant with these kind of small details.

Tai Hang is an area filled with great food, with no exception, Warren is a restaurant true to its value with enthusiasm. You will be leaving with no disappointment but a very satisfied stomach. This cozy restaurant is also available for private party booking upon request, so do drop by for some drinks along with some bites!
