在香港的比利時餐廳不多,數來數去只得太古坊Belgo East,IFC的Grand Place同Soho上的Au Belge. 近月比利時菜多添一名新成員,名叫Frites,地點在中環H&M隔離,皇后中心樓上二樓. 格調充滿著歐陸小館之風情,長木檯同木凳,亦是帶有歐州的"Canteen style"之味道,記得在倫敦唐人街某間海鮮餐廳,也是如此樣子. 比利時身為法蘭西之鄰國,其菜式亦充滿著濃烈的法國味.簡單一點說,是比法蘭西菜causal一點.那麼比利時菜,便沒有個性?非也,隨意也說得出,比利時菜有三寶:朱古力,青口同啤酒.. 先說其啤酒,比利時的啤酒一早名聞瑕爾,種類可話五花八門,除大家熟悉的Stella Arotis,"好加頓"之外,同時亦有酒精度較低的果啤.而且亦有一些所謂"修道院啤",這些私作並非店內的自家製,而是那些源自中世紀時代,修道院內僧人所釀製的私貨. 在香港也有地方供應比利時果啤,如果是果啤生啤的話,此店可算是全港唯一.單是果啤生啤,也有好幾種.友人未到時,小弟先來一杯櫻桃味的生啤,入口果味比例較重,口感清爽. 再來杯蘋果啤,相對就較為bitter,果味苦啤,都幾特別

先說其啤酒,比利時的啤酒一早名聞瑕爾,種類可話五花八門,除大家熟悉的Stella Arotis,"好加頓"之外,同時亦有酒精度較低的果啤.而且亦有一些所謂"修道院啤",這些私作並非店內的自家製,而是那些源自中世紀時代,修道院內僧人所釀製的私貨.

在香港也有地方供應比利時果啤,如果是果啤生啤的話,此店可算是全港唯一.單是果啤生啤,也有好幾種.友人未到時,小弟先來一杯櫻桃味的生啤,入口果味比例較重,口感清爽.

再來杯蘋果啤,相對就較為bitter,果味苦啤,都幾特別.之前喝過的香蕉,提子,朱古力啤.全部也是比較甜.

比利時菜既然深受法蘭西之影響,就來一客法蘭西裔,比利時籍之菜式.就是生牛肉他他.話說此味,香港並不多地方可吃到.

賣相絕佳,在生牛肉上面的一隻生雞蛋,有點晴之效.食法便是將伴碟的配料,放在生牛肉內撈勻,塗上麵包伴吃.同吃韓國生牛肉差不多.

其實店方可代勞,但我想替其影全相,還是自己下手吧.將所有材料撈勻後,搽在麵包上吃.這個法式生牛肉他他,剁得很幼細,在歐州大多家庭也會自己弄.但不會花時間自己剁,而是放在搞拌機搞成碎便可.說回牛肉他他,本身不是如韓式生牛肉般,帶點辛兼有點凍.味如咸牛肉.但比咸牛肉更有牛肉的鮮味.實在不錯,來到的話,一定要試.

青口要兩種煮法,一個是House,一個Mariniere,各要500克.

兩者皆用煲盛上,賣相正宗,吃Mussels,少不了薯條,薯條同青口,同英國的炸魚薯條,兩者如雙生兒的最佳拍檔.

House是用忌廉汁煮,如果一心用來點薯條就最好.因為個汁偏杰,點薯條最為適合,其Mussels肉質鮮嫩,入口無沙兼沒有討厭的臭味.Mariniere就比較清澈,用酒去煮,典型歐州大路之食法.更能突出Mussels本身的鮮味.兩者各施各法.各有各好.

後來友人追加的比利時朱古力啤,這支名叫Floris的朱古力啤酒,友人喝罷大讚.未細問她這支朱古力啤,是否味如酒精版黑牛?

在這間比利時餐廳causal dining,其實也無須刻意dress up前往,但我看見坐在吧檯的外國女子,身上的黑色外套,是同樣來自比利時的Martin Margiela.

下一次來,或要拿回年前穿尚是good fit,今日穿上已有點貼身的Dries Van Noten 外衣,心理上或會覺得更入型入格.

-裡面有coriander, fennel同lemon zest同煮,好夠味,青口亦滑同無渣,不過就細隻咗少少,無友人講咁大隻
-啱啱上網,見有食家話佢d青口唔喺比利時/荷蘭貨,當晚我唔記得問waiter d青口喺邊度嚟,因為荷蘭貨喺比澳紐貨高1班
-配菜有薯條,1片麵包同soft cream
-個薯條芯好軟,有薯味,只喺外唔夠脆; 個cream有d sour cream嘅影子,用嚟搽麵包同蘸薯條,不錯

- 多謝友人請食飯

- 其實呢間餐廳個主題喺sell比利時風,所以佢嘅啤酒全部(例如stella artois, hoegaarden, leffe, belle-vue kriek...........)都好似喺比利時牌子。所以我先咁在意佢哋嘅青口喺咪比利時/荷蘭d靚貨

- 裡面個環境比較暗.............用晒重木型家具

- frites解fries嘅意思,另外要記得訂枱,好爆吓。當晚我無book到,只得1個鐘頭時間,如果食個full dinner就唔夠時間,但食以上嘅嘢就卓卓有餘

- 佢哋有express dinner,在5-7pm,$118包1個course同1個drink(應該唔會喺以上嘅果味啤酒)好似都幾抵吓,可以試吓。另外都有個express lunch優惠,詳情就要致電餐廳喇

Got a bottle of the Belle-vue cherry flovoured, beer, $45 on draught. Not too bad, just a hint of cherry and quite tangy. A's first beer was a dark trappist one called Achel, nothing to write home about, and his second was a Kwak which was refreshing and quite fruity, and was served in figure of 8 shape glass on a wooden stand, a bit like chemistry class lol.

A wanted to come here for the mussels as he wants me to taste real Dutch ones, but the big disappointment was they were from Australia and were not the smaller blue black shell variety that hail from Holland. The manager confirmed our suspicion that it's cheaper for them to import from Oz. We had them the Mariniere way - cooked in a simple light consumme, and was quite an authentic method apparently according to A.

For mains (around $200 a pop) we had the roast duck and beef stew. The skin of the duck was crisp and not greasy, the sauce (a red cabbage one) was light and went well with the heavier meat of the duck, and the dish came with half a dozen dumplings. The stew (cooked in beer) had too strong a beer smell plus the meat was overcooked, so it could have been any kind of meat for all we knew. There was plenty of gravy though. Portion sizes were average.

Best thing of the evening was the piping hot fries (frites) that came with the mussels, and the specially-made mayonaise which had a creamy texture but was very light. At least the fries lived up to the name of the place! It's probably better to come just for the beer - there's one with a chocolatey taste that I will try next time.

great space, nice high ceiling, communal tables makes good atmosphere.straight copy of famous belgian restaurant Belgo in London.on night of our visit, their signature item mussels were unavailable (because of supply issues). bad startthe dishes we had were all very unmemorable. some were downright poor. great selection of belgian beer though
