Well, seems that this is the only Pacific Coffee Company branch in the vicinity that's open on Sundays! I'm finally out of the Starbucks monopoly for my Sunday caffiene fix...(OK I checked the PCC website, it says the 625 King's Road branch is open on Sundays but I hardly see its doors open at the times they're supposed to be, anyway... )Now the word Fairtrade is all the rage. I hope it's not just a fab and would really do some long term good for the coffee growers and others in the supply chain

Now the word Fairtrade is all the rage. I hope it's not just a fab and would really do some long term good for the coffee growers and others in the supply chain. For us consumers on the receiving side, that means we have to pay more, out of the faith I've just mentioned.

(BTW I'm still working on another review on Zen Coffee and will elaborate more on this, stay tuned!)

I'm talking about PCC's current promotion of Crema Scrua, a new certified organic Fairtrade espresso blend. According to the promotional items from PCC, it has a "dark chocolate finish" best matched with milk, so the 3 featured drinks crafted with Crema Scrua would be, to no surprise, Cappuccino, Latte and Mocha. I have yet to find out whether PCC serves Crema Scrua espressos.

For my debut drink at this branch, I ordered a Tall Crema Scrua Latte ($30), picked up my coffee at the counter and then hid myself in some secret corner of the shop. I think PCC likes this "secret corner" (I coined this term) idea very much. I've come across a number of shops that has a table tucked in the corner (but facing the shopfront window!) so whoever's sitting there would be seen by no one else in the shop (but everyone walking past in the street!). Brilliant.

As for my Latte, I couldn't see anything very extraordinary about it. I have to agree with the official description that this blend is quite smooth, and the flavours are balanced. The aroma was somewhat weak-ish to me, but I think this had something to do with the large amount of milk in it, as probably PCC uses a single espresso shot for Tall size drinks like SB does. I liked the fine foam on top in particular.

It's not hard to see how this new PCC shop will become an instant favourite in the neighbourhood!
