Randomly walked pass the shop and saw the “no gsm” sign, so decided to give it a try. Had a summer roll, pho, and bun rieu. Their taste is so close to the one we had in HCMC. Fresh ingredients and authentic cooking. We literally finish every single drop of soup. The staff here are very friendly too. Keep it up.

I came to this place because it says no msg which, I think, is a valid claim. The bun rieu was quite good. The soup was very flavorful with a good balance between the taste of the crab and tomato. The pho was just ok. It's missing something but I can't tell what it's missing. or, maybe it was just too salty. The Vietnamese drip coffee was ok as well. This restaurant is quite small and cramped. The portion is on the small side. Most people would need to order an appetizer or a snack to feel full.

Lastly, the service.... was just ok, just like any Chinese noodles joints, except the servers speaks English.

My chicken pho noodles arrived first and then a plate of oily spring rolls came. Three crunchy pieces arrived and just from the looks of it, I will not get disappointed by these crunchy side dishes. They were delicious with their odd batter. But I have a different opinion with the chicken pho... The first sips were good. The top layer aroma was nicely made, the soup was good and real. I don't know really...I'm not saying the noodles were bad or anything, the chicken slices were good, but for some reason I wasn't satisfied with the entire bowl. Like it lacked some more ingredients to be close to the pho noodles I had in Vietnam. I'm thinking maybe the chef or owner tweeked his recipe to match Hongkongers' tastebuds. I'm not sure about that...but I just left without a happy face. Will I return? Yes, to try their banh mi.

In my experience, Vietnamese style distilled coffee are different from their regular blended ones. Hence, distilled is often pricier and you get to mix it up based on your preference (whether hot or iced). Yet, they serve it just like they’re the same and when asked, they emphasize this is the “authentic” way. Guess every other Vietnamese restaurant in HK are wrong compared to them then? Then onto the flat white, I’ve tasted a latte that has stronger coffee flavor than them. All I tasted was watered down milk and nothing more. On the upside, their food was OK, but I seriously do not recommend you wasting money on their coffee.

We sat down and the waiter is very friendly and welcoming. (Which is the only best thing here)

There’s only more or less 10 options on the menu, including snacks/appetiser. We ordered a pho, banh mi and one stack (never had before).

Given no other customers, we have waited a WHILE until we got food. The Banh Mi. Omg so disappointing! It’s so small portion And the bread is very stale. Probably sit in the restaurant for a couple days (not enough consumers!) The fillings or whatever are inside, don’t taste like a banh mi and absolutely way too oily.

Then the pho. I would say it’s average but over priced. The beef is very chewy and not quality. Too much noodle and too little soup. The pho quickly sucked all the soup.

The slack is bad also. Just oily. Feel like you could get them in any Chinese style bakery for under 10 dollars and it’s 38here.

When you only have a few items on the menu you should be good at those.

Always on the look out for decent Vietnamese, I found this small shop in Tin Hau called Saigon Etoile Vietnamse Street Food. Hmm...interesting?It was a very small shop. I would say maybe 3 tables and a very cramped bench seats. As I was by myself, I saw at one of the chairs by the bench.Menu is in English and Chinese. There is no 10% service charge. The menu doesn't have a lot of variety but that is fine with me. It shows they want to focus on what they know instead of trying to please everyone.

I ordered a Vietnamese coffee ($38). There wasn't a lot of condensed milk but it was enough for me. Though the staff did ask if I wanted more so this option is available if you do want more. The coffee was ok. It wasn't strong enough. It wasn't as robust as Vietnamese coffee usually is.

I chose a traditional pork banh mi ($68).  First things first: the bread was THE bread. It was light, airy and crispy. It wasn't a baguette like most other places tend to use. There was a decent mix of cilantro, pickled daikon and carrots, Vietnamese  sausage, pork belly and pate. There wasn't any chili peppers in it nor was I asked if  I wanted any. I guess good as I don't like it spicy. So, if you do like your banh mi spicy, I guess add the hot sauce available. The pickled vegetables could have been pickled longer to make it more sour. But the meat...the meat was superb! Wonderful savory morsels of fatty belly and firm sausage meat. Probably one of the best banh mi in Hong Kong. And not expensive, too! Size was big. I would say a foot long!

Very good banh mi. The staff was also very friendly. They speak English, too. I will be back to try out the noodles next time! And come on a weekday to do the lunch set deals.
