This restarant is located on the 7th floor of a building opposited to Sogo. I am surprised that an apratment building actually is a building for different restarant. According to my colleague, it is quite common in HK. Amazing. ce the lift door opened, a manager came out to welcome us. My memory tells me that it may be the first time for me to be welcomed with warm and nice tone in this town. There are two lunch menus: set lunch (mainly for local customer) and a la carte (mainly for Indian). My collegaue picked a curry shrimp lunch set and I got a "South Indian Thali". The manager looked at me for a few seconds and told me that it is vegetarian. I explained to him that I had in Indian before. So, it's ok for me.
The Soup
Today's soup is cream of tomato. The texture is lovely - not so creamy but thick enough. I believe that it was added some indian spices which enhance the spicy favor.
Dish 1 - Curry Shrimp
It included a masala chicken, rice, shrimp in curry sauce, and nann. All items are absolutely high quality and I can tell that the chef must be Indian. From my point of view, cooking is an art which is quite subjective and dependent on the cook's personality and skills. Also, standarized cooking procedure is not hearty that you can tell when you taste the food. Although it sounds rare, I think most of you can tell which chef is sincere to their customer, simply form the food.
The curry shrimp set includes a beverage. To save time, my colleague got a glass of coke with lots of ice.
Dish 2 - South Indian Thali
I have make a disclaimer first: I am afraid that this "South Indian Thali" is the best in this town. But I like it because thali allows you to taste various foods with tiny little portion in the same meal.
1. Soup: This is the best spicy clear soup I have ever had before. The degree of spices is at the "fit" and "right" amount. Guys, you must try this!
2. Various dishes made by potatoes, beans, and veggie: Although I can't tell what is the ingredient in each little pot, I can tell you that all have greate taste.
3. Rice: the rice seems to be dry out. If it is Indian long grain rice, that would be much much better.
4. Indian bread (烤餅): Unlike nann, it has less flour but more grease. Also, a good food for accompanish with spicy foods.
5. Yougurt : I love dairy product. This yougurt is a refreshment and good balance between spicy favor and the next .... dessert!
6. Dessert: Thisi s a mixture of shredded coconut, oil or butter, and syrup. Most people may not like this but I am really enjoy that too.
The final bill is HK$117. Although the quntity is not very large, we really enjoy this meal and we probably will come again.
Our Quick Chat with the Manager
When we were waiting for the life, I read the printed menu poster in front of the restarant's main enterance. The shop manager asked me which one I like. I told me that I will try Dosa next time. Then, he told me that most local people prefer to have a set, such as soup, main dish of rice / nann and some meat in curry sauce, and beverage. He advocate us to replace meat by vegetable in order to keep us healthier. Hum .. I have no comment on it. However, I like trandition Indian food, not those modified to fit the local appetize. So, if traditional indian food inlcude "no meat", I would follow. Not because religious or health issue, but for the real taste of Indian favor. I believe that the non-meat ingredient may be the best friend of Indian spices.
