I always have this mid-afternoon itch for hot chocolate, especially when it's chilly like today. My top choice was always LGB (as long as the short filipino woman is not around). I always have this mid-afternoon itch for hot chocolate, especially when it's chilly like today. My top choice was always LGB (as long as the short filipino woman is not around). To verify that they do have the best chocolate in town (or in town for my palate), I flipped through several websites for "Best Hot Chocolates in Town". One of the top names I came across repeatedly was Vero. This dedicated chocolate seller was found by a chef who worked at Isola. This was first opened as Vero Lounge, then the shop closed down to make space for Giando (the chef's new restaurant) at Fenwick Pier. His name was something like Gianni, so definitely Italian/Spanish. Vero was orphaned, sold and now relocated into a much smaller kiosk at the Landmark. Poor thing.

I was debating between this and Jean-Paul Hevin. A factor that put Vero in favour was that I didn't want to get out of the Landmark indoor-comfort zone. The menu came with a variety of hot chocolates - raspberry, after 8 mint, caramel etc., most of them are at $45 (I'm sure you can see from the other photos in other bloggers' posts). I had no idea which one to order at first. The good looking Asian manager/owner recommended the 70% signature hot chocolate so I went with that choice.

Excuse my appalling, half-drunk, photo-quality. It does have that very nice warm cocoa smell to it, but what I want to say is, the chocolate came in a very small shot, about the volume of two espresso shots. I obnoxiously blurted "that's it?!" as I receive the small cup. $45 for ~120ml of chocolate is pretty expensive. I can imagine "real men" would like this sort of drink, but I saw no gold in it.

The chocolate came in a very thick and full texture. It's almost as thick as the churro dips you get in Europe. However, the chocolate must have been overheated. It almost burnt my tongue when I took the first sip. Then though it didn't have that odd sour taste to it, the cocoa oil was separated from the chocolate contents. You can see the oil floating in the picture below.

Personally, I will not return for another cup. You can try it for yourselves if you think you'd like to drink chocolate fondues.
