Scoured the net like everyone hoping to find Hong Kong's best clay pot rice. Almost all results pointed to this restaurant, but I digress.

First thing you notice near dinner time was a hole in the wall with plastic covers at the entrance, and a long queue formed. It left an impression of a makeshift quarantine station, but民間美食is usually found in the most unexpected of places, so we joined the bandwagon.

Inside was super loud; you get an array of visitors from all over. I know I shouldn't be nosy, but mainland guest beside us was speaking so loudly about his extra-marital affair for the whole world to hear that our ears couldn't help but perk up as we subtly inched over to八卦about why it was alright for him to be involved in a harem but immoral of his wife to divorce him over for it--enjoyed hearing this self-involved bigot talk all the while judging him (so hard) and consumed our food quietly:

[Hot damn! ] 炸蠔餅(Oyster pancake) $30 HKD: Best item on the menu. The red sauce and the fish sauce made it taste so heavenly as it blended in with the greasy oil still sizzling. A must order!

[MEH & pricy] 白鱔煲仔飯(Eel Claypot) $74HKD: Good flavouring, but didn't quite like the soy pieces as it was overpoweringly salty. Also found it quite expensive and totally unsatisfied with only 5 pieces of thin eels. Think we got too hungry and opened pot too early otherwise the bottom would have formed a crispy shell.

[MEH] 臘腸滑雞煲仔飯Chinese Sausage & Smooth Chicken $53HKD: Smooth chicken was tender but the sausage was too greasy. Points docked because no crispy rice shell at the bottom. However, the soy sauce was savoury and sweet at just the right level.
While this joint was not " the best," we did enjoy ourselves "overhearing" juicy gossips of other patrons. It was a damn shame we didn't get to hear the full story, but it did make the food taste better.
