This is a chain of congee restaurants serving a pretty wide range of congees. As a visitor to HK who cannot read Chinese, their English menu was a god-send!I had wanted to try 'Sun Kee' http://www.openrice.com/english/restaurant/sr2.htm?shopid=14329 in Tung Fong St. for breakfast due to the good reviews, but they don't open 'til 11am. (they close at 10pm)- besides, 'Sun Kee' doesn't serve pig's blood (or 'blood jelly' congee).I have also used the Hung Hom branch of Ocean Empire for breakfast w
I have also used the Hung Hom branch of Ocean Empire for breakfast whilst staying at the Harbour Grand Hotel on a previous visit to HK. Their congee base is not the most flavourful, but they are open all day, clean and have minced beef congee, which many places don't- offering beef slices instead.
I preferred their cheung-fun with the dried shrimp/ spring onions compared to the 'plain' variety, which was very bland indeed, with a tougher texture than the best cheung fun.
The service was excellent, efficient and kind, as I clumsily spilled a whole bowl of congee by mistake and the waitress cleaned it up and replaces it good humouredly without any signs of displeasure- she didn't even charge me for the replacement!
There are congee restaurants everywhere in HK, but I'll be going back unless someone tells me there's a better one!
