Just came back from a 3-week vacation in Canada. Still recovering from the jet-lag and decided to get back to OR reviews starting with the experience at the Travelers' Lounge just before my vacation on 9 May.Tried the Lounge at the East Hall (near Gate 1) before but it's my first time trying this Lounge at the West Hall (near Gate 35). I always hate long haul flights -- can't sleep nor eat well. So the decision was to fuel up at the Lounge before taking on the 12 hour challenge to Vancouver.
Tried the Lounge at the East Hall (near Gate 1) before but it's my first time trying this Lounge at the West Hall (near Gate 35). I always hate long haul flights -- can't sleep nor eat well. So the decision was to fuel up at the Lounge before taking on the 12 hour challenge to Vancouver. Afterall, it's free.
The place overlooks the parking apron and offers a very relaxing environment for travellers to catch up on their emails, have some snacks and drinks before they board on their tiring flights. The choice of food offered was limited and the quality of the food was just ok. However, the 鱼旦粉、cookies, spring rolls, curry chicken are still way ahead of the aircraft food offered by the airline. So, no complaints at all. Just one set back. As the area overlooking the apron was heated up too much by the setting sun, we decided to sit "inside", away from the sun. However, most of the "shaded" area was fenced off and reserved for first class passengers. I'd have no complaints at all as these people pay a lot more for the seats. However, there was hardly anyone sitting in that reserved area while the "economy" seats were mostly taken up. I asked the lady there if she would consider opening up the reserved area to free up the congestion but was met with a stern no. Well, it they decided that they could not exercise judgement and flexibility and provide customers with better service, there's little I can do. Luckily, we managed to find a nice "shaded" seat beyond the reserved area very soon. Around 10 minutes later, the lady decided to open up the reserved area. A bit late for us but still a good decision. Just hope that this signifies a start for sound judgement and care for customers to prevail over adherence to rigid rules. Nice setting, okay food, a decent place to refuel before taking off. Will come back again for refuelling in future vacations.
