Caliente has many qualities. Great food, diverse menu selection and chill music. However, if you are expecting to be greeted warmly by the staff and made to feel welcome, prepare to suffer more disappointment than the Game of Thrones finale, or deluded Trump voters who still think the election isn't over. If you were lucky enough to have a good experience at Caliente, it would be DESPITE the staff and not because of them.
Expect unfriendly service that ranges from dispassionate, glum facial expressions to negative body language and a stern, downright disrespectful atittude gave me chilling flashbacks of the times I was called into the principal's office for being a very bad boy.
I mean I understand that times are tough for the service industry.
But when our table of 4 decided to order shisha after having dinner at the restaurant to celebrate a birthday, it was not made clear that we were actually close to the 2 hour time limit and had to give up the table soon OR be prepared to spend at least $250 per person to keep the table.
Apparently, it's an unwritten rule in Knutsford Terrace that everyone knows about and we should be reprimanded for not being aware of it, despite it only being the first time we've decided to drink and order shisha at Caliente after having dinner.
"You've come here many times, you should know the rules! You can go to any bar in the area and they will have a minumum spend policy. Most of our customers come in and shisha for 10 minutes only!"
So we decided to fact check that and went to a bar to the left for where Wildfire used to be and guess what? Infinitely better customer service for half the price, with NO minimum spend!
Literally, close your eyes and pick any random bar on Knutsford Terrace and they will offer infinitely better customer service than Caliente. No esta bien.
If you're not dripping in cash and prepared to splash out $9000, which according to one of staff is apparently the case for most of their customers, take your hard-earned cash elsewhere.
On the bright side, if you want good food and have a weird thing for paying to be scolded/treated like a naughty schoolboy, I couldn't recommend Caliente enough!
