A few aussies at work went out for a big treat to celebrate Australia Day and excluded us () so my fellow Kiwi colleague decided that we would do a little exclusively Auckland Day and Waitangi Day celebration ourselves. My colleauge is into local hongkie food and she got all excited when I said I know a place that does old school hongkie style western food. Both of us had to throw our dietary plans out the window for a day...and it's kind of cold to have salad under this freezing weather anyways

Both of us had to throw our dietary plans out the window for a day...and it's kind of cold to have salad under this freezing weather anyways!
I made a reservation for 12:15 and we were there on time. We wondered upstairs and realised it was 80% full already. It was getting pretty noisy that we kind of had to scream and shout to make ourselves heard.
We both had the Russian Borscht as starters. I always loved hongkie style Russian Borscht (especially the soft roll that comes with it) but I have to say I was slightly disappointed - the Russian Borscht was a bit too oily (thick layer of grease sitting on top) and was not hot enough, and the soft roll had a strong taste of lard (not the most healthy option I suppose...)
For mains, my colleague had the 瑞士汁牛河 and I had the 焗芝士石斑飯. The 瑞士汁牛河 is always a signature dish and it has lived up to expectations - the swiss sauce had thoroughly got into the rice noodles and the taste was just right. The 焗芝士石斑飯 on the other hand was a bit too salty and a bit too dry.

题外话/补充资料:
The service was never great and it lived up to its tradition...we asked for our unfinished mains to be doggy bagged but the waiter apparently had completely ignored us and threw it away...we complained for a bit and the supervisor offered to make us a full serving.
