This fried pomfret is recommended by them so decided to try it. The fish is freshly fried and came way before the noodles, though they both took very long.
The skin is thicker than regular steamed pomfret and thus I couldn’t eat it but the flesh inside is very buttery and flaky and moist. It was also very well seasoned, even the bits near the bone was salty and flavourful. They do give a whole fish but it is not too big so you can probably finish it yourself. It can get a bite greasy so there is some raw cabbage under to soak up dripping oil.
As for the noodles, it came pipping hot and I chose the least spicy option and added some kombu for fun. The noodles are so bouncy and slippery and done very well and a lovely textural contrast with the crunchy bean sprouts and a flavour contrast with the pungent garlic chives. The kombu was a nice additional because they give quite a lot, it didn’t taste fishy and added a nice slimy bite to the noodles 😋😆. Now the soup, I was not expecting any flavour since I chose the plainest one but wow was it flavourful. Immensely rich and deep and savoury, not overly salty or creamy. If I wasn’t rushing somewhere and if the soup wasn’t boiling hot I would have drank every last drop! 🥹

💬 Overall, a comforting and delicious lunch but it was crazy how long the queue was after I left. The restaurant isn’t spacious with minimal seats so prepare to be a bit comfortable. Oh and the fact that the wait for food is long is quite weird.
