Just before two on a Sunday afternoon this place was the emptiest I'd seen it. I was actually on my way to get coffee somewhere else but as this was on my 'wish to go' list I stopped to take advantage of the lull in business. I was seated immediately and given a menu. Oh my word it was tough to choose, banana waffles, honey-almond French toast, there were many that tempted me even though I don't have a big sweet tooth, but eventually, craving a a little taste of home I opted for the apple crumbl
Just before two on a Sunday afternoon this place was the emptiest I'd seen it. I was actually on my way to get coffee somewhere else but as this was on my 'wish to go' list I stopped to take advantage of the lull in business.
I was seated immediately and given a menu. Oh my word it was tough to choose, banana waffles, honey-almond French toast, there were many that tempted me even though I don't have a big sweet tooth, but eventually, craving a a little taste of home I opted for the apple crumble and a latte. The bill arrived almost as soon as I had ordered along with a fork and spoon in a cup.
The coffee came almost ten minutes before the apple crumble which I was totally ok with as I needed the coffee. The coffee wasn't exceptional in anyway, in fact it tasted like one of those cold cans of Nescafé but heated up. Both times the waiter served me she seemed to have a little trouble placing the food on my table, she was very hesitant to reach across to put it in front of me, instead choosing to place it on the adjacent table, (I was sitting at a four-person, two table place), and slide/push it over to my table. My guess is that she was relatively new to the job but she was very polite.
The crumble arrived hot and sweet-smelling. The topping was delicious, wonderfully cooked, buttery, crumbly crumble, (poshed-up a bit with the addition of a few pumpkin seeds). The vanilla ice cream was nice too, whilst it lasted it helped cut through the sweetness lurking below the crumble topping - the apples. They were nice for sure, a slight sourness fighting the sweet, but by halfway through I was getting the sugar-sweats. I was in need of a dessert companion to help me finish.
Overall verdict: I would not come here for the coffee but if I was in the market for a sugar injection I would definitely consider it.
