The Haven Street area of Causeway Bay is one of my favorite areas to eat. A lot quieter than the much more busy Causeway Bay but interesting mom and pop shops. It's almost like their own little hood. 囍筷 (English name: High Five) is new and I discovered it one day while boyfriend and I were thinking of what to eat before I headed home. Serving Taiwanese fast eats, we decided to give it a try.The shop is not very big and though there is a small side bench for eating there, it's mainly for take aw
The shop is not very big and though there is a small side bench for eating there, it's mainly for take away. I was thinking of taking it home but then boyfriend reminded me that they were fixing my building's elevator for a month so I would have to walk up the stairs with a bag or two of food and drinks. So, we just stood there to eat.
Menu is in English and Chinese. There is no 10% service charge. They offer sets that come with a drink. If you are student, they offer a $5 discount.
They also have a la carte.
And they also offer tea sets that end at 5:30.
We decided to share two sets. They had run out of all the other drinks that day so we could only choose white gourd tea. It was ok. Not too sweet.
This is set D: 3 pieces of shacha chicken wings and one snack ($59). You can choose the flavor of the chicken wings and we chose salt and pepper (or strangely labeled sesame in English which is incorrect). The wings were tossed with a nice spicy seasoning. The wings were moist and juicy. There were some crispy crackers underneath.
For the snack you can choose fried squid balls, green beans or sweet potato fries. We chose sweet potato fries. I wanted fried squid balls but boyfriend won out on the debate and had sweet potato fries. These were topped with some sour plum powder. The fries were soft and fluffy, sweet and crispy on the outside. The sour plum powder made it even sweeter.
This is set A: salty chicken with three types of vegetables ($59). This came with braised pork on rice or noodles mixed with scallion oil. A choice of noodle can be chosen so he chose thick. The noodles soaked up the oil well and it smelled great. The vegetables included cucumber, mushroom and baby corn. The shredded chicken was not too salty. The whole dish was refreshingly cold. Good on a hot evening like today.
Boyfriend was still hungry so we shared a side of deep fried tofu ($28). This was probably my favorite. The tofu was soft yet the outside was crispy. It was topped with sweet and spicy soybeans. We also found some crispy rice crackers underneath.
Inexpensive quick Taiwanese snack items. Good for a quick bite before moving on. The tea set is an interesting option for a light snack to cure the hunger pangs. I can expect this place to be busy when the students at the school next door get out of classes.
