Passed by this coffee shop one weekday and went in for lunch. It was just after noontime, and we were able to get a table easily. They had some kind edamame spread on the sourdough slices and the slow cooked chicken was not tough with herbs on top. There were some tofu and cantaloupe pieces being placed around the sourdough with dollops of chilli oils. These pieces didn’t match the overall flavours of the sourdough and chicken and were oddly out of place. This “fusion” of flavours didn’t really work for me, which flavours were rather confusing and incoherent. A “con-fusion” rather than “fusion” of flavours.
However, when my cappuccino arrived, I was pleasantly surprised! The artisan blend was a blend of coffee beans from Ethiopia. It had that berry notes that lingered in the mouth after every mouthful. It was a delight to savour those berries notes with the creamy and nutty undertones of the roasted coffee. Don’t know whether it’s the choice of bean, manner of process or the craft of the barista who could amplify such flavours from a coffee bean. Quite extraordinary.
