This evening, I ordered a curry set with shrimp set for dinner. While waiting for my meal, the table next to me was served their food, which was also supposed to be a shrimp set. However their shrimp was replaced with fish cakes. While they were discussing among themselves about their order, my food arrived and, sure enough, the shrimp was replaced with fish cakes.
I asked the server what happened and she said they ran out of shrimp. That is fine, but surely they could have informed me when I placed the order. They assured me that they had "just ran out". Again, this doesn't seem to be the case since it happened to at least the table next to me. So "just ran out" does not seem correct here.
While they justified what they did by giving 4 pieces of fish cakes (instead of 2, which they claim is the normal order), it doesn't make up for the fact that most restaurants in Hong Kong would have the person taking the order (1) inform the customer when the order is placed that a particular item is out or (2) ask the customer for an alternative when they obtain updated information from the kitchen. In either case, before the food is cooked. The restaurant's staff should NOT be substituting food and forcing the customer to accept the substitute.
While the server said this could be a communications problem between the kitchen staff and those taking orders (I agree!), this isn't the customer's problem. I also don't expect this from a restaurant chain -- this kind of problem should be resolved before a single restaurant becomes a chain. The staff promised she would bring this up with management (who was not there) and, as I had no choice, I ate and paid for my meal.
Of course, it's even worse to pay an additional 10% for my meal as "service" charge. The server insisted that I had to pay the same price.
The food itself is quite over-priced. As some meals are $120, I would not call the price range of this restaurant to be $50-$100. Its average is about $100.
You are paying for the character association (B.Duck in July 2016), which may appeal to children and fans of the character. The curry itself doesn't taste as good as Japanese curry. It tastes almost watered down...
Clearly, I'm not giving this restaurant another chance.
