I have been waiting for this restaurant to open since July. I’m so happy and excited Science Park decided to open a new Korean restaurant with KBBQ. They only accept cash as of now same as Briketenia next door which is an inconvenience as we originally booked for Briketenia but they’re lunch set us way to expensive for cash payment. So we decided to try the much cheaper Korean restaurant next door. The appetizers were decent but not that special. The seasoned spinach is a bit stale and not that
I have been waiting for this restaurant to open since July.
The seasoned spinach is a bit stale and not that seasoned, at least it is still crunchy. The kimchi is rather spicy compared to other Korean places I’ve been to, although a bit old and tattered. The seasoned bean sprouts have a strong sesame flavor but could be more crunchy.
The service definitely needs improvement as the staff seems to be very new and untrained, which is expected but I hope they can improve as a waitress accidentally served us with the wrong drink and food twice 😅.
Cold Naengmyeong 水冷面 $62
The broth is cold and strong. They added ice cubes into the dish which is a definite must and a good detail noted. The broth is refreshing with a wild flavor. Great for drinking and slurping with the noodles.
The toppings included was the customary sliced beef, pickled radish, sliced cucumber, sliced pear and half of a boiled egg.
The beef was extremely tough and firm even though it was sliced very thin. Good thin there was only 3 pieces as it is not that good.
The pickled radish was sliced thickly like authentic naengmyeong 😝. It was not too acidic and fermented with a strong hint of pickled radish, the crunchiness was perfect with the sweet pear and chewy noodles.
The cucumbers and pear was sliced perfectly in between thin and thick so it was easily picked up and soaked well in the broth which made it extra refreshing. Eating it with the noodles gives you a variety of textures from crunchy to chewy and tastes from sweet to sour.
I recommend crushing your egg yolk halfway through eating into the broth and then eating your noodles with that sauce, the thick egg yolk makes it so creamy and balances well with the acidic and refreshing broth.
The noodles don’t have a strong buckwheat aroma so not that authentic but very elastic and chewy. They are also very thin and carries the broth well. It was also a big bundle of noodle which is very generous and filling. You also get to untangle the noodles which is always part of the experience 😆.
The noodles come with a small bowl of vinegar and a dollop of mustard. Adding the vinegar is a must and really highlights the dish, i wanted to add the mustard too but it is not the traditional mustard used for Naengmyeon and just table mustard which is not spicy at all.
Overall, this dish is certainly worth it and it is nice to have a bigger variety to choose from here in Science Park. I am not expected authentic Korean dishes here but I appreciate their effort and attention to details to make it a more authentic Korean experience.
The restaurant also doesn’t have service charge during lunch hours but they do at night when they have the ‘all-you-can-eat’ KBBQ.
