Ordered something simple to focus more on their soup and noodles.
The “清汤” is actually very very flavorful, it is super rich and reminds me of beef broth 😝. I was expecting some transparent soup base but it was milky and just full of flavor. It was so flavorful that I was skeptical if they used any additional flavorings…
The enoki mushrooms were given generously as I only ordered one topping. They were all loosened but still some small bundles for a chewy bite. Also, none of it stuck to my teeth which was really surprising. Eating this with the noodles is absolutely delicious.
The noodles themselves are super springy with some chew. I didn’t ask for a smaller portion but my mother did and the difference is very noticeable. My bowl was completely filled with noodles and at first, I was afraid there won’t be any soup left as mixing it was hard in the beginning but the noodles weren’t absorbent at all. Tamjai really lived up to their name as the noodles were just amazing. Simply amazing. The portion is also very generous for the price which made the value even better.
Additional toppings were bean sprouts, bean skin and Chinese chives. There was an abundance of bean sprouts but only a few chives. The bean sprouts were crunchy but you could see it is not fresh as it was quite browned. Nonetheless, it was really good eating with the noodles.
Overall, Tamjai definitely deserves their fame for 云南米线. The price is also suitable for simple or extravagant lunch with their toppings and snacks. They also don’t have service charge!
We came at 11:15 (they open at 11) and there was already a lot of people, we were lucky to get seat at bar table because at 11:30, there was already a queue for the restaurant!
