Spuntini (Plural) or Spuntino, are bite sized bar food to be served with Aperitivi drinks and wines in Italy. A similar terminology is Stuzzichini & Cicchetti which depend on the recipes and region. Nico's Spuntino is named after the owner's daughter and has instantly caught on to become a hit spot for a snack and a drink. Personally, however, I did doubted whether a Spuntini Bar will work in Hong Kong at all. A lot of snack types of food even back in Italy homeland itself isn't that memorable or intended at even Osteria or Ristorante level. Spuntini and Stuzzichini are fairly basic food back at home... so please come here with an open mind. If you want fine dining Italian, go to places like Grissini, Angelini, Tosca or 8 1/2 Otto e Mezzo instead.

Burratina Fresca - $68
Fresh Burratina cheese is more like a smaller Burrata. The cheese taste is expectedly mild and creamy.

Caciocavallo Silano in Carrozza.
Caciocavallo 是意大利南部的芝士 - $98. This is fried and served with leeks. Similar in taste to a shallow-fried or grilled Saganaki from Greece. A signature dish at Nico's.

Seafood Antipasti Platter - $188
Comes with lovely Spicy baby octopus, Shrimp cocktail, Smoked swordfish, Salmon. We liked the baby octopus, and personally I liked the smoked swordfish too the best.

Pizza Mama Assunta's - With mushrooms and White Pork sausage, mozzarella. $118
The thinnish crust was decent enough, but the price of this pizza was good value in town indeed. I would happily order this, knowing the genre of this shop and it's intended clientelle.

Roasted Suckling Pig with Myrtle Leaves-
The Australian free-range suckling pig is never frozen and supposedly has more meat than local Chinese offerings. The skin was crunchy rather than crackly, after many hours of preparation, and the Spuntino Bar prides themselves for making a not too 'salty' skin despite the salt and herbs rubbing before the final roast procedure, for upto 3 hours. The Myrtle leaves are used to smoke the pig to impart an exotic flavour. This is very good and one of the must orders here, although certain bites might have more fats than meat.

T-Bone Steak - $78 per 100g. Minimum 400g.
This is an Australian beef and quite affordable. The biggest problem I had with this steak was how it didn't had much grilling flavour. The meat had enough meat flavour to compensate, but it could be improved in grilling and meat tenderness. At this lowish price range, this could potentially become a winner if they fix the minor problems.

Mashed Potatoes -
Very chunky and quite buttery. A lot of people liked this. It also happens to be my style, but for certain others they might want to smoother. Each to their own. To me, another good must order item.

Artichoke & Prosciutto Risotto - $168
Liked the idea, but think it needed more prosciutto or meat or fat flavour. But cooked al dente enough. Couldn't detect much artichokes either though....

Gelato Selection -
These are made by i-Scream locally but with special flavours made especially for Nico's. The Earl-Grey was easily the winner, being strong in tea flavour but could be just a tad more smoother... the Lychee was also decent enough and not overly sweetened.

Digestivo & Sigaro Cubano - $98
A Zibibbo Passito wine is poured onto the cigar shaped dessert, which is chocolate coated around brik pastry. This is not for everyone's taste I had a feeling, as crispy brik pastry is not that common in Hong Kong, so isn't the Passito wine being poured over it. It is almost like a home made Kitkat but more crispy than the wafer base. I personally thought this was decent and the wine ? That is more of a personal preference. I can accept Passito drinks on desserts, just not as much as when I drink it straight up as a drink, I guess?

Nico's Spuntino Bar & Restaurant has some potentially good dishes. I
But don't expect too much either. Because customers automatically associate this and compare it to Fine Dining Italian restaurants and its perceived and expected quality, yet to me a Spuntino bar should always be totally belonging to and performing within it's own casual category. Would be back to try more food soon !!
