Waking up late, I wanted brunch. So, we came to Coffee By Zion. One of many coffee shops in the Sai Ying Pun area. It was busy, like many of the others but at least there was a few seats available. Air con was good and we went in.The place is spacious with tables and and bench type seating. Ordering is done at the cashier where you also pay and they will bring the food to you. Menu is in English and Chinese. There is no 10% service charge. But they do have a mimimum order of $80 per person betwe
The place is spacious with tables and and bench type seating. Ordering is done at the cashier where you also pay and they will bring the food to you. Menu is in English and Chinese. There is no 10% service charge. But they do have a mimimum order of $80 per person between 11:30 - 3:30 (peak lunch hour). There is also a dining time limit of 1 hour for drinks only and 2 hours for food and drink.
When we were there, set lunch was still available. Sets include a main along with a soup and Americano or Earl Gray Tea. Other drinks are half price. Other regular cafe items like pasta and burgers are also available.
Along with the usual coffee, they have coffee cocktails and mocktails. A litte bit different than most coffee shops.
Boyfriend ordered a coffee mocktail. Originally wanted a cocktail but the staff said the barista that does that wasn't in that day. So this is the Black and Yellow ($50). An espresso with pineapple juice. We've grown to really love coffee with a lemon. And I've tried it with orange juice. This is a first with pineapple juice and it was good. Not too sweet yet light. Refreshingly clean.
I ordered a Latte ($38 but $19 with lunch set). It came with a very cute bit of latte art. A bear with a house. The latte was smooth and nutty. Smelled wonderfully strong and full bodied. Temperature was just right. It also wasnt overly milky. Quite good.
Boyfriend ordered from the lunch set menu and had the Crab Meat Angus Beef Burger ($118). The bun was soft and buttery. Lightly toasted as well. The patty was well seasoned and juicy. It aws topped with mounds of crab meat. Crisp lettuce and two slices of gooey cheddar was also there. All with a mayo like burger sauce. Microgreens was on top.
They ran out of soup so a small salad was substituted instead. I liked the salad. A simple bit of greens an fresh juicy tomatoes. Dressed with a Japanese onion dressing.
I always come to a cafe and want something sweet. They offered a variety of croffles so I decided on the Matcha and Red Bean Croffle ($108). This came with a scoop of matcha ice cream. There was also a pitcher of thick matcha syrup and a little mountain of azuki bean paste witn tri color dango on top. The dango were soft and chewy. The azuki bean paste was very sweet. The croffle was crisp and had a nice buttery taste. There were two so it is completely shareable.
A nice relaxing coffee shop with decent eats and good coffee and interesting mocktails and cocktail choices. Service is cheerful and place is tidy.
