Three Blind Mice is a place I discovered while wandering around the Wanchai area. It was located in a small hidden corner. But even though it was hidden, the tiny place was full of people who looked really happy. Peaking, I was greeted by someone who worked inside and I decided to give this place at try. Like it's whimsical name based on the nursery rhyme, I went in blind. The place is very small. You literally have to squeeze in. But they have an upstairs area as well. The atmosphere is cozy and
The place is very small. You literally have to squeeze in. But they have an upstairs area as well. The atmosphere is cozy and you have a feeling of being at a friend's house.
During lunch session, they have a lunch set that costs $118 that includes an appetizer, main and dessert or standard drink. Menu is in English only. They also have a la carte if you re more interested in that. I decided to go with the lunch set and went with the dessert as I didn't think portion sizes would be that big. Boy, was I wrong!
Fish Goujons and Tartare Sauce. These were fantastic. The coating wasn't too thick but it was super crunchy. It was piping hot inside so it was fresh from the fryer. The fish meat was moist and cooked to perfection. It was not dried out like so many places that do fish sticks. The tartare sauce was also home made.
Peas and Spinach Gratin. This was what threw me on portion size. It was bigger than I expected. Then I popped it into my mouth. O.M.G. It was all sorts of yum! All those times I've dined out and had sad mac n cheese to only proclaim why I even bother ordering it, went out the door! This was AMAZING. Memorable with every bite. Comforting and warm like a hug. It was so creamy and cheesy. And the flavors! So many of them whipping in my mouth. This was heaven and all the reasons why I love mac n cheese so much.
Waffle with Chocolate Mousse and Raspberries. Feeling absolutely full, I thought I couldn't go on. But as any girl can tell you ... we always have room for dessert! And this was a perfect ending to one of the best lunches I've had in along time. The waffle was crispy. But it was the mousse that took my breath away. The chocolate was deep and luxurious. The mousse, smooth and decadent. Combined with the raspberries, it cut away the sweetness. But what did I detect? The raspberries? Were they soaked in some sort of alcohol? They tasted slightly boozy. Oh wow .... it was heaven.
Even though it's a very hidden location, it was full of people. The staff was smiled at you. Plopping your food down with a word of cheers. Food came out one at a time and not all at once so you didn't feel rushed. No wonder people were laughing and happy. This is what food should be about. Food that makes you happy. A place worth a detour. I love this place and is it too early? It's my favorite restaurant of this year. And I will always be back.
