Sorabol Korean Restaurant has been in Hong Kong for a LONG LONG time. With so many Korean restaurants opening and closing, Sorabol continued on. Serving traditional Korean dishes with none of those new popular items like stretchy cheese and beef hanging on the ceiling while you BBQ away. I've been here for lunch (though not this branch) and it was always fairly good. A bit pricier than other Korean restaurants but it was always delicious. I guess due to this, it was noted in the Michelin Guide f
However, I've never really come here for lunch so boyfriend and I decided to give it a try. They have the general a la carte menu but they also have a lunch menu on weekdays. Menu is in English, Chinese and Korean. Each set comes with access to the unlimited salad and soup.
The salad was just some salad greens tossed with spicy sauce. I wasn't a big fan but boyfriend liked it a lot.
The soup of the day was what appeared to be pumpkin. It was lukewarm. Very thick in consistency but not a lot of pumpkin taste.
I ordered the marinated short ribs, pork and chicken set ($105). It came with a bowl of rice, seaweed soup, kimchi, seasoned spinach, rolled egg and orange for dessert. The meat was sadly cold. It marinade they used for the meat was great an it was moist and tender. But sadly it was cold. The spinach was hard to chew. The kimchi wasn't good at all. Just tasted sour and not much else. Probably the best item in my entire meal was the roll egg. It was wonderfully flavore and soft. One of the better roll eggs I've had in a long time.
Boyfriend had the braised short ribs set ($115). This came with same items as mine except there was no seaweed soup. This was great! A lot better than mine by far! The short ribs were so soft and tender, the meat literally fell off the bone. The flavor was so strong and we wished there was more sauce.
Some items were good and some were not. Price range it was a bit more than other Korean restaurants during lunch hour and those places actually do a much better job. It makes me wonder .... is this why this place is more quiet at lunch than other places? Price is not cheap yet quality at lunch is not very good. There were a few items that were good but not all. I'd likely go somewhere else for lunch if I wanted Korean and not choose this place.
