We (6 of us) ended up here after a short hike around Cheung Chau on a hot day because our favourite beach bar on Kwun Yam Wan beach was closed. I had only been to this Windsurfer cafe once before, several years ago, and the menu, decor and (I guess) the management has changed since then. But we were thirsty and hungry so we thought we'd give it a try.
The location is superb - on a platform overlooking the beach, the helipad, and the great view across the water to HK Island, and we had the perfect day for it - warm, sunny, clear views. We ordered drinks (lime sodas and Tsing Taos) which were cold and refreshing, albeit slightly expensive for Cheung Chau at $34 for Tsing Tao (330ml) and $35 for lime sodas.
The food mixture is largely western, offering "tapas" dishes like chorizo, gambas (shriimps), calamari, plus grilled chicken sandwich, cheeseburger, and a couple of "Asian" dihes, like egg-fried rice. The prices are not cheap, so we were expecting reasonably substantial portions. Sadly it was not to be: $68 got 5 (small) shrimps; $68 (I think) was also the price for a very small and very average plate of fried squid. The egg-fried rice was a reasonable portion for one person, but $75 is just over the top for such a standard dish. Having seen this, the member of our party who had ordered a cheeseburger decided he didn't even want to wait for it and left, preferring to get an earlier ferry.
When it finally arrived, in the interests of not adding to HK's food waste problem, I decided to eat it. This was a mistake. This cheeseburger was, frankly, the foulest cheeseburger I have ever had anywhere - the "patty" was just a sloppy oily mess that contained little that was identifiably meat (or identifiably anything really); the "cheese" was one of those horrible slices of processed muck that shouldn't even be allowed to be called cheese. The "salad" with it consisted simply of shredded lettuce and radiccio with no dressing. And it was also (I think) about $68. It was far, far sub-McDonalds in standard, and yet three times the price.
The only dish which just about reached an acceptable quality/price point was the chicken sandwich at $52.
If the food had been decent we would quite probably have stayed for a few more beers, but the whole food experience was so poor that we all just decided to get to an earlier ferry.
If you're in the area then only go here for the view and the drinks, but then again, you could get the drinks from 7-11 and sit on the beach! Alternatively, for a beach bar, go to the little one in Kwun Yam Wan if it's open: it's just 100m further on, the beer is slightly cheaper, and the fried beef crispy bun at $40 is far better than anything we saw at this windsurfing cafe.
