The first impress I have, was are you kidding me. The décor was exceptionally wonderful, but its Portuguese style in a classic Italian restaurant, a total joke. The restaurant was famous for poor services as well, the funniest thing was, the waitress (a TB) even forgot the bill after I asked, and the reason being she was too busy lecturing her junior to serve. This was probably the most bland rocket & parmigiano reggiano salad ever. All you need to do is to mixed it with a class vinaigrette or balsamic vinaigrette with seasoning on fresh rocket, epic fail. 1 points for the nice presentation.

Lasagna Calabrese (3/10)
The lasagne was very nicely made very classic Italian style. Personally I would prefer the one with miced beef and pork plus white and red sauce! The home style is always the best.

Linguine con Zucchini (3/10)
It could have been the best dish of the meal. But the pasta lacked seasoning; luckily, the dried cherry tomato compensated it. The zucchini wasn’t roasted enough, and no fresh oregano was use. However, with the right improvement, this could be the perfect classic Italian pasta dish!

Ricotta (1/10)
When it was served, I didn’t know that was a ricotta. Perhaps, I don’t have a good understanding of Italian food. This 1 point was given for some kind of sweetness as a dessert. It is rightly deserve. Zero would be a little too harsh.

Ironically, the garlic bread was the best dish of the whole lunch; however, it was not even on the menu, it was given as a pre-started. The first time I have learnt free food is better than food you paid, great lesson!

樓下酒吧是半開放的,夏天可能會有點悶熱,但牆上藍白色的瓷磚能帶來涼涼的感覺。客人可選擇單點頭盤buffet又或是點主菜,相當靈活。

而最喜歡的是bar枱後長期駐守幾名店員,一看見食物被拿掉不少就會即時補給,夠新鮮之餘亦賣相亦不會亂糟糟,單看亦賞心悅目。

兩人不能吃太多,就只點一個Diavola pizza分享。

而薄餅亦是這裡的主打招牌菜,記得開幕初期時那用磚堆砌成的火爐曾是城中熱話。而這裡提供的是正宗naples式薄餅,在經食友提點和上網查找後,發現這種薄餅並不只是一個名字,而是有一套國際認可的準則:

麵粉應用筋度強又幼細的00麵粉,不同麵粉轆而單用手挫成餅形,並像邊位捻成有點高的包邊。
薄餅大小有規定,底因沒經轆平所以不會超薄,亦因用筋度強的麵粉所以質感應該鬆軟又帶點點煙韌。
薄餅經掃上橄欖油和放上簡單的蕃茄,香草等材料後,在以柴火燒熱的高溫磚爐中烤很短時間,直至卜起的包邊變焦就成。
這種薄餅邊迄迄突突的不會很漂亮,卻有種獨特的炭香,鬆軟的包身更是香濃美味。

我未吃過意大利當地的薄餅,只能評論這次吃到的Diavola pizza。飽邊有焦黑,但不算很多,而飽身亦帶點濕濕的不夠輕身。麥味不算非常濃郁,但比一般的薄餅已來得香濃。配料是簡單的蕃茄醬,芝士,香葉和辣肉腸,入口又酥咸又香甜又帶點辣的非常富層次。只是薄餅底烘得不乾身就會摻倒汗水,吃到第二片時就失卻了那乾爽的質感。但總的來說拋開正宗不正宗的因素,這薄餅也是美味的。

set lunch沒包括甜品,但其實吃頭盤已經很足夠。飲品要了簡單的冰茶,味道甜甜的應該預先加了糖水。但吃完偏濃味的食物,啜一口冰涼的茶是說不出的爽。

餐廳進出不斷,很多客人亦是到樓上吃更正規的$158 set lunch。問我值不值,我卻覺得樓下的buffet卻更靈活又抵吃。

雖然,同區提供差不多的antipasti lunch的選擇也不少,例如位於蘭桂坊的Bistecca就提供選擇更多的lunch buffet。兩者難分高下,哪間較佳就看你個人喜好了。

週末來到只有數款weekend brunch選擇,沒有set lunch,但其brunch的選擇亦不太吸引,所以最後我們還是決定a la carte點菜好了。

不過是日吃運麻麻,這裡作為第一站已經是一個不太好的開始。由於前菜不太吸引,最後我們就點了2款pasta和一款pizza,之後再點甜品吃。Pasta分別要了Lasagna calabrese 和Boston Lobster Linguini,前者味道較好,不過份量實在是很少,基本上我們每人吃一口就沒有了。蕃茄味夠濃酸酸的較開胃,芝士香亦夠,亦不會覺得麵焗得太腍身,唯一就真的是細份了點。

雖然上者味道正常,但另一款pasta - Boston Lobster Linguini就不太好吃了,份量和前者一樣不大,只有一隻小小的龍蝦讓我們分著吃,肉質都爽口而且有鮮味的。問題是再吃下去基本上吃不出龍蝦的味道,只吃到其蕃茄醬汁的味道,不說也不知自己吃著lobster linguini! 意粉煮得可以,硬度適中,但味道真的很淡,和吃普通蕃茄意粉感覺沒太大分別,實在是很一般。

Pizza 我們則選了Radicchio, Gorgonzola e Porchetta,感覺上這款是比較吸引,而且其有肉類的pizza選擇也不太多。Pizza份量比pasta正常,味道則沒什麼特別,餅底不太脆是偏腍身的,但可以接受。Radicchio 店員說是類似椰菜,但偏苦的蔬菜,而吃下時苦澀味的確是挺出的。Prochetta ham 味道鹹香亦不錯,但我們覺得如果芝士再多一點和香濃一點會更好,現在芝士味就偏淡了一點。

由於鹹點也沒什麼吸引我們再點,最後我們還是點一些甜品好了,不過甜品基本上也不太好,唯一最好吃的已經Pistachio Gelato,質感幼滑而且開心果味亦很濃很突出,這個是幾好吃的。

但另外點的兩款甜品都不太好,先說Stracciatella Sundae,這個來到賣相感覺有點hea,像是小朋友甜品似的 (well… 可能餐廳真的是target小朋友點的),簡單來說就是雪糕上舖著一些生果,果仁再加一些焦糖醬,味道不難吃但完全一點也不特別就是了。

最後點的Pastiera Napoletana就更過份,店員說由於甜品要焗所以要我們等15-20分鐘,但這個出來時是凍冰冰的,而且份量又是超小一件,真的不知他們想怎樣。味道亦不好吃,它說是ricotta cake with limoncello sauce,但我們吃下去是馬拉糕的味道,一點芝士味也沒有,質感亦很奇怪,反正就是大家吃一口已不想再吃下去了。

這次吃lunch感覺真的不太好,份量偏細而且味道還不太好吃,相信我們也不會再有意慾來這裡了。

Main dishes were all a let down - most people opted for a pasta or pizza - all were kind of flat on flavor or way too much seasoning/spice. I had the veal - it was OK - deep fried so can't go that wrong but not that much flavor and a little tough for veal.

Only great was the chocolate pudding which is basically a molten chocolate cake with a scoop of ice cream; fantastic.

Everything is overpriced though for the quality.

The tomato is sweet and fresh! The bread is, of course, for a bread lover, very nice too.

My friend, on the other hand, ordered a set lunch which is VERY cheap - 3 courses!
with appetizer (she chose an organic beef carpaccio - she didn't comment on it, so I think it's just so-so)
For the main course, she had a penne aglio lio - (it was originally spaghetti, but she likes penne)
The portion was so small that it was barely enough! (Fortunately there was bread to fill her up XD )
And for dessert - she chose raspberry sorbet - which, I tried, was quite good, soury and really appetizing!

All in all, the bread is VERY nice, but the food there is just so-so...

那天去上環找人做印章, 路經208餐廳,得知為精品酒店集團女強人所開設,正直傍晚時段, 因沒有訂位, 但也有安排bar枱就坐,無需等位, 但前台好似只懂英語(先講廣東話沒反應,後用英語才明白)店舖好切合意大利風味,現場環境好多老外氣氛高漲,二話不說先來兩杯生啤, 一看餐牌沒有中文只有英意文, 點了一客火腿一個pizza napoli, 火腿配上法飽另加棷欖油同醋上, 風味十足.那個 pizza 一吃竟是冷的, pizza 不該是燙的嗎? 會不會是其他客人不要才給我?或是擱置一旁超過十分鍾才所致?吃到炭焦味多過 pizza 味!!這是拿波里的風味嗎? 十兄之九弟

We tried this place a few months back following some Italian friends' recommendation. It was said to have the best Napoletana pizza in town. Mozarella was really fresh and tasty. Some might find it a bit soggy but it's great pizza overall.This time around was quite another story. Mozarella was actually mixed with some kind of unknown cheese. That's a sin for a Margarita pizza. The dough was also chewy and a bit oily. It's not a total disaster. But for $150 plus a pizza, it's really not worth it.

We had a hard time choosing somewhere as we thought all the British restaurants would be full and we thought we could watch live coverage from the television. Then we realised that the wedding wouldn't start till 5pm and the Pearl coverage wasn't until 3pm.

It was my friend who chose this restaurant as she read it won some best newcomer 2010 award. I read all the Openrice reivews and there were more crying faces than smileys. However, I find sometimes reviews on Western restaurants aren't too accurate. And a lot of the bad reviews were on the service and incidences rather than the food. I am not a fussy one when it comes to service, so was happy to try a place I hadn't been to before.

We were served some warmed pizza breads to start which I found very tasty, they had a good bite and was lightly salted. Too bad, I was late and the bread had cooled down. it was nice never the less. The waiter recommended the special lunch sets for $205 as he said had some signature dishes in them. I asked if these were the special Royal Wedding sets and he said yes. So I told my friends, we must go for these wedding sets.

All the dishes had fancy Italian names but I cannot remember them. My starter was a poached egg in fresh tomato sauce with minced salami paste on top. I asked for my egg to be well done and my friend had hers runny. The bread that came with the dish smelt like it was infused with olive oil and was ideal for dipping into the egg and sauce mixture. It was quite a filling starter though. My other friend ordered the seafood broth with fennel. Since I don't like fennel, I didn't order it. When it came, it resembled a Bouillabaisse and when I tasted it, it was so sweet and full of seafood flavour, I didn't detect the fennel at all. I should have ordered it. Never mind, I liked my egg too.

My main course was the roast chicken on a bed of grilled eggplant. The chicken meat was so moist and fragrant, it could have been the best roast chicken I ever tasted. The portion was huge and there were many big pieces of eggplant underneath. I think the eggplant might have soaked up the chicken juice as it was really delicious. I tried my friend's fish which was very fresh and had a good texture, I am not sure what type of fish it was. It came with a baked lemon which gave a really nice smell. Their fish were big too.

Dessert was a bit of a problem as it was Tiramisu or this pineapple dish with Italian alcohol mixed with ice cream. None of us like tiramisu, so we all went for the pineapple. My friend loves figs and saw on the a la carte menu that there is a fig and blue cheese dessert. So she ordered that as well. Have to say the desserts were all disappointing. The pineapple was fine on its own but the alcohol and ice cream sauce I didn't understand. The fig dish was $98 but only had one fig cut open. I know figs are precious in HK but not that precious. After dessert, the coffee that came was in a nice cup and delicious. When the meal ended, I asked the waiter why it was the Royal Wedding special only to find out he didn't know what the Royal wedding was. Anyway, it was a good recommendation and great value. And us 3 had a great long lunch celebrating.

行過上環荷李活道見到呢間裝修好靚既意大利餐廳,星期五終於試到啦!! 兩個人叫左個D.O.C. pizza,好好味喎,, 有炭燒既香味,好好咬。可能我好鐘意食芝士,所以好鐘意,最特別係佢要配辣椒油,芝士加辣椒油真係第一次。香港好少有真正意大利pizza,全部都係美式0個0的大件夾抵食又多料.. 食一件就濟... 仲叫左一個Pomodori Uovo.. 即係蕃茄同埋水煮蛋,蕃茄好香,水煮蛋都好smooth,有小小辣味,好開胃。再加一個Dry Rubbed Ribeye,,,唔會太乾,鹽香味好重,但又唔會搭過ribeye 味。唔需要任何source,原汁原味!兩個人3樣野食,已經好飽 餐廳內部裝修都唔錯,用左好多原木傢俱,好樸實,最鐘意其實係佢條樓梯,白瓷磚上面有藍色中國圖案,樓梯用左金屬材料,有外國Feel,對比好大,但係又唔係唔夾,好特別。香港其實好少0的咁有特色既裝修,成日都係黑白灰你唔悶我都悶!

仲叫左一個Pomodori Uovo..
即係蕃茄同埋水煮蛋,蕃茄好香,水煮蛋都好smooth,有小小辣味,好開胃。


再加一個Dry Rubbed Ribeye,,,
唔會太乾,鹽香味好重,但又唔會搭過ribeye 味。
唔需要任何source,原汁原味!


兩個人3樣野食,已經好飽

餐廳內部裝修都唔錯,用左好多原木傢俱,好樸實,最鐘意其實係佢條樓梯,白瓷磚上面有藍色中國圖案,樓梯用左金屬材料,有外國Feel,對比好大,但係又唔係唔夾,好特別。
香港其實好少0的咁有特色既裝修,成日都係黑白灰你唔悶我都悶!

went back to 208 saturday night when i found out the old chef had left and the place was packed in the bar and in the restaurant. we decided to have a pizza in the bar as they have a new menu of white and red pizzas with tomato sauce and without, the toppings are very interesting tried the potato raddiccio and porchetta and it was fantastic, the cheese is strong, like gorgonzola and the raddiccio really makes it. they now serve lasagne as well in the bar, it is a new addition using spicy calabri

Lucky us! we shared the octopus anti pasti which was very different but again fantastic with a red pepper sauce capers and preserved lemon, and then shared a rib eye and it was perfect, they use a beautiful dry rub and the crispy prosecco potatoes were bitter and sweet all at the same time. Next time we plan to order the fiorentina, saw a couple go out to other tables and it looked awesome. the place was packed and the staff were on the run, but they looked after us well. 208 has improved so much, we could understand why it was a full house with a great new york style atmosphere, even without the new york chef

Sorry but I would like to let everyone who visits here know that YOU REALLY PLEASE WATCH OUT YOUR BELONGINGSI heard so many stories you lose your purse, umbrella, phone, iphone IN THE RESTAURANT after or during the meal.You take care of yourself and be more careful even in Hong Kong after all and I am not sure whether that is just a coincidence or not, but I personally think that I would like to have a meal in safe, trusted place without worrying any.

Steak was disappointing, ordered blue/rare, got medium rare, dining colleague ordered rare/medium got medium well. Meat was nothing special, quite a lot of gristle. The accompanying potatoes seem to be cooked en masse, not overly hot but with plenty of oil, presume cooked well in advance and then left in moderate heat with oil to prevent sticking. Colleague asked for ketchup for his potatoes, they advised they didn't have any, would seem unlikely.
Was told that the steaks at this place were equal with the best in HK, overly high praise, they were average at best.
All in all, based on meal and service this was a very disappointing experience. The meal cost $1200 for two steak mains, two squid starters and a bottle of water, at half that price it would have still been a bad deal.

I was close to going somewhere else based on reading some of the reviews here beforehand. Good thing we did go.The entrance was impressive, like an invitation to an experience. The interior decor was atmospheric. The rustic iron staircase was particularly remarkable.Service was good. Not intrusive, but efficient. Service was good. Not intrusive, but efficient. We did not experience the problems other reviewers suffered.
Food was prompt.
I liked the foccacia served as a complementary appetitizer. It was warm and flavorful, and gave a sort of preview of their pizza dough.
We ordered the large rib eye steak florentina style. Not cheap at over $800 for 2 to 3 persons. It was perfectly done, and presented on a plate of white beans. Charred on the outside and juicy on the inside, not to mention flavorful.
The place was full, a sure sign that although some reviewers were turned off, it remains popular.
The pizza was indeed thin and soft in the middle. But when I visited Naples years ago I was surprised how soggy their pizza was. Much more than the one here. The fresh cherry tomato topping was very nice indeed. Whether one likes this style of pizza is a matter of preference, but it certainly should not be compared to a New York pizza or a Chicago pizza.
We did not have any dessert as we became too full by then. We also did not have any wine. I mention this so you get an idea of the price. I would say the price and the experience (i.e. food, service and decor) are compatible and reasonable.
In conclusion, none of the dishes stood out as so unique they cannot be available elsewhere. But the dishes were mostly well prepared and above average. Together with the decor, I would say it was a very satisfying experience.

The WORSE SERVICE ever. Definitely not again.I am glad to have such a decent restaurant opened in this area. Hope the management will read this comment before its too late.Its not the peak hour and the restaurant was not full at all. We had been waiting at the reception area for quite long but no one came over to lead us to our table. We walked toward the bar area but still no one came to serve us. Its not the peak hour and the restaurant was not full at all. We had been waiting at the reception area for quite long but no one came over to lead us to our table. We walked toward the bar area but still no one came to serve us. We then walked toward the end of the restaurant but seemed like no one noticed our existence. We had to find our own table and settled down by ourselves.

The food was okay but too oily that it wouldn't be your choice if you're looking for something healthy.

If you're looking for a peaceful restaurant, this is definitely the right choice. No waitress nor waiter is sensible. Its the peak hour but no one would come over and check if we needed anything or if the food was okay. Even if we just wanted to ask for some water, we needed to talk to at least two waitresses before we could get two glasses of water. The waitress walked forth and back but none would have a look at our table.

The most ridiculous thing was it took us almost 30mins to have our bill. We talked to the first waitress. She seemed like she passed the message to the second waitress. We thought only this waitress is responsible for this. We waited and waited but no one delivered the bill to our table. We talked to the second waitress again to make sure she got the message. Minutes after minutes, we still couldn't get our bill. We then kept having eye contact with the manager and finally he got out message. Though its already 30mins.


If you're running out of patient, our advice is don't ever try this restaurant.

so typical of many new Hong Kong restaurants - let's spend all the money on the decor. The first amazing thing was that we were told that a grilled pork chop would take 45 minutes to 1 hour. Really! My wife ordered pasta with a bolognaise sauce, the first attempt at which was cold - and I mean COLD. The second attempt was hot but tasted very strange and had a microscopic amount of sauce (and yes I know that Italians do not always like a lot of sauce, but this was ridiculous). There was also

There was also bell pepper in the bolognaise - interesting and not included in the restaurants in Italy that I have visited on holiday. My veal shoulder was OK but the cannelini beans were undercooked and the cavolo nero had garlic (the usual HK style uncooked garlic), despite clear instructions to the waiter, no garlic.

When the chef appeared at the table, he assured me that the garlic was lardo - I don't think so as I can tell the difference. He said that he had personally prepared the second attempt at the pasta. I suggested that, as he was so proud of his food, he might like to try some of my wife's meal. He seemed to think that this was rude but he certainly did not pick up a spoon to try. Says it all...

We will not be returning.
