I'm from the states, and I will say that Fat Angelo's is a decent approximation to the lower-end Italian 'family style' restaurants that one finds in the states, like Olive Garden and Macaroni Grill. That doesn't mean it's good, it just means it is what it says it is.
Here's what we got: a jug of sangria, house salad & bread (free), garlic bread, salmon & fettuccine, and chicken parmigiana & spaghetti.
The sangria: I'm going to give this one a thumbs up. There's nothing spectacular about it, but it's not overly sweet like some sangria, nor is it overly watered down. It could be a little more fruity. But it was refreshing and it did its job. 8/10
House salad & bread: the salad I thought had too much dressing on it, but it came with a fair mix of veggies. They were out of the regular bread so we just got crunchy bread sticks. My wife thought they were good, but me not so much. These come free with the pastas, and I think with any other main dish. 6/10
Garlic bread: This was really cheese bread with some garlic. I don't think the menu even mentioned that the garlic bread had mozzarella on it (though maybe it did in Chinese). Still, it was OK, but if it hints at what their pizza is like, I probably don't want to have the pizza here. 6/10
Salmon & fettuccine in cream sauce: This wasn't all that great. There was too little salmon, the pasta was overcooked, they went overboard on the dried herbs and there was some distinctive off-note in the cream sauce. 5/10
Chicken parmigiana & spaghetti with tomato sauce: The chicken parmigiana was reasonably crispy, reasonably tender, and reasonably flavorful. It could have been better, but I've had much worse, so this was fine. The pasta again was overcooked, and the sauce was pretty much what you would expect to get out of a jar of pasta sauce. 6/10
I didn't give any of the dishes high marks, but I think I'll probably come here again. The atmosphere is straight out of Carraba's or Olive Garden. Sometimes you just want a big plate of mediocre spaghetti and a jug of sangria. 7/10
