I have long anticipated the arrival of Da Via located in a corner spot in Wan Chai next to the tram lines. Not only do they have great food, but it's a great location to people watch!
I have been to Da Via three times now, and each time have been a very enjoyable experience.
The first visit was on the opening night, 5th June. I went with a friend from Italy and we had a lovely evening. We sampled several authentic Italian dishes, parma ham with melon, burrata with tomatoes, mixed cold cuts and the fabulously delicious focaccia bread. The bread dripped with olive oil and was both crunchy and soft, what a divine combination. We both felt we were sitting in a small eatery in the middle of Umbria when the food was served. The melon was sweet, juicy and perfectly ripen - just like summer melons in Europe.
To round off the evening, we shared a panna cotta with berry coulis. I'm not normally a dessert eater but my friend insisted and she said that it was better than in Italy!
Early July, I went with three European friends for lunch. We arrived early, 11.30 am just as they were opening to beat the lunch crowd. I had the meatball sandwich and it was very good. The other ladies had Caprese sandwiches and we rounded off with panna cottas and coffees. The Illy coffee and panna cottas were perfect!
My most recent visit was almost two weeks ago, 11th July, again with a group of ladies who are from Hong Kong. We enjoyed a few bottles of the Chianti Classico (very good value for money) and we sampled different foods. We had the mixed cold cuts platter, foccaccia bread basket, tomotoes and burrata cheese, melon and ham, a pasta dish with mushrooms and veal. It was a feast and we were all very stuffed. Dessert was tiramisu and panna cotta! Great rounding off the evening!
Will certainly be back for more delicious, authentic Italian cuisine! There is no place like this in HK! Well done and can't wait until the outside area is open!!
