I think this was my last ramen joint in Hk island where they serve proper Japanese ramen.(not those Japanese "style" crap).I gotta say, it is quite costly for a Lunch of 水 or 金 set  ...Had their signal dish "kogashi miso ramen" w/金set of the fried chicken.Considering the ramen a little too oily (which I'm not complaing, I like it very much) , my opinion is they should just serve the normal style kara-age rather than mixing it upwith mayo-chilli oil (although it came in very very very small 3pcs)

Considering the ramen a little too oily (which I'm not complaing, I like it very much) , 
my opinion is they should just serve the normal style kara-age rather than mixing it up
with mayo-chilli oil (although it came in very very very small 3pcs).
I should have ordered the set that comes with the sushi.
And 20hkd per kae-dama(加麺) and 20hkd for drinks, gotta say, it is a little bullsh1t
(and yes, I know its inside IFC).
Well, will I ever go again?
Maybe, maybe not, who knows.

一月七日 (星期二)更日有朋友提起,想在香港找一家重口味的拉麵店試試不多想,立刻推介GOGYO的五行焦香味噌拉麵一場來到GOGYO,當然要一試這招牌菜在黑色湯底中呈一粒粒的,原來是以高温爆香的四款味噌,再配以雞湯而成,即叫即炒別看表面平靜,湯實則熱辣辣,小心燙口呷一口,最貼切的形容,就像豆豉鯪魚,一點沒誇張我倆也愛吃豆豉鯪魚,對此湯底也挺受落~更精彩更詳盡內容,不在這裡談,到部落格看吧~

True to its name, Gogyo (meaning the 5 elements: Metal, Wood, Water, Fire and Earth), primarily serves five different types of ramen, namely, their signature "Fried miso ramen", Salt ramen, White ramen, Red ramen and Black ramen.

Other than the Fried Miso Ramen and the Salt Ramen, all others should be Tonkotsu based. (I overheard a customer sitting next to me saying that the tonkotsu soup base was extremely rich.)

I ordered their signature Fried Miso Ramen set with a small bowl of chirashi sushi (sushi rice with sushi toppings served in a bowl.)


A point about the good service. They gave me a paper apron, which is crucial bearing in mind the colour of the broth. Good attention to detail.

They also gave me a glass of water at room temperature, which could be improved by adding lemon to it to reduce the oiliness of the ramen.

The oiliness was definitely the most visually striking part of the whole bowl of ramen. It had almost 0.5 cm of oil on the surface.


The broth had a very pungent fried miso taste, which was very interesting.
It also had onions, deep fried onions and minced pork, probably some fried garlic as well. Oiliness aside, the taste of the broth was fairly complex. I don't recommend drinking it though.

The Japanese cabbage was very fresh and crunchy. I suggest adding more cabbage to further reduce the oiliness.

The few thick pieces of char siu were very soft and flavourful. Very good. One of the better ones I've had so far. A bit better than Matsuichibanya for example.

Different from the normal "Hakata" style ramen (thin and white like those served in Ichiran). The noodles were were thicker and have a very nice egg taste. It's similar to the type served at Matsuichibanya, which could be considered as an improved version of the "MIST" ramen. The noodles had a very springy texture.

You could choose either a salad, small sashimi rice or three pieces of sushi.
I choose "sashimi rice". It had scallops, tuna, salmon roe and some sushi rice underneath the sashimi. The quality of the sashimi was not bad but nothing to write home about.

Conclusion:

All in all, kogashi miso ramen is most certainly an acquired taste. If you can handle the oily broth, you might appreciate the complexity of the taste. The noodles and char siu were good. I might return to try the other ramen.

Not for the faint-hearted.

Restaurants located in IFC generally are a bit overpriced, but delivers decent food and service. This new-ish Japanese ramen shop exceeded my expectations, for several reasons:

Quality of Food
First off I must admit my expectations were somewhat shaped by Gogyo's predecessor, another Japanese restaurant at the very same location. The quality there could fluctuate so much that you can walk out absolutely disgruntled one time but delightfully contented the next. Anyhow, Gogyo makes good, original ramen, as well as decent skewers with a twist.

Ramen - 
五行焦香味噌拉麵
ark, rich broth with indeed some hint of smokiness. Ramen noodles were moderately thick, chasiu tender, all in all quite a wholesome main course. I'd rate this 8.5/10.

黑拉麵: again a darkish broth, but with a bit of spice which does elevate the tastes and texture. Ramen noodles thick and chewy, chasiu an interesting adaptation - you'll see what I mean. Egg well executed. I'd rate this 8/10.

Others - 
和風串燒盛 (5 pieces): this consists of wagyu, smoked egg, cherry tomatoes wrapped in bacon (those are the best ones), and then also a disappointing salmon piece and scallop cubes. The latter ones were cold and didn't retain the fresh and melt-in-your-mouth experience seafood ought to have. On average I'd give this 7/10.

Tofu panna cotta with chocolate crispy bits and sorbet : I guess they were inspired by all the "deconstruction" trend going on with French desserts or something, but anyhow this is an interesting rendition of panna cotta, no cream but tofu as the base. Nice surprise, and fresh berries. 7.5/10.

Decor
Nice high ceiling, not a lot of seating. The bar table in the centre gives you both the ramen experience as well as a good place for drinks I suppose.

Service
This I have to give mixed reviews because while one of the ladies who served us was all smiles and helpfulness, and who also asked for feedback on the food etc, one of the bartender/waitresses looked like she was yanked out of bed for work that is obviously below her...=~=

That's it! Sorry about not bothering with pictures...but all the other reviewers post good pictures anyway, nothing much to add on that aspect. 

Oh and I forgot to mention Gogyo is more than ramen and skewers, it offers sashimi, sushi, other hot food, as well as lots of interesting good beer (which they also offer pairing with ramen and other courses, making a 7-course menu in total - try that if you have the time and luxury I suppose). Not very expensive either, for the qualit. Thus all in all, worth trying!

Other Info. : No wait after 8:30 pm , but other reviewers seem to suggest the place would be packed at lunch, or so I would suppose.

You get to choose between red, white or non-alc. All 4 of us chose non-alc for some reason. It was like a fizzy yuzu-based punch. Not bad. Could've downed it in one gulp.

How dainty and sophsticated. Wooden tweezers to pick up each piece of veg, aww. It was delightfully fresh, cool and appetizing. Well-balanced sweet and sour vinegar. I appreciated the addition of shiso leaf into the usual mix, because it was the only flavour i could taste apart from the pickling juice. The natural flavours of cauliflower, baby corn, cherry tomato and raw papaya couldn't be tasted. Only the peppery shiso leaf flavours came through.

Out of the 5 skewers, only the smoked soft-boiled egg and wagyu with veg appealed to us. The others were just so-so. The smoked soft-boiled egg was wrapped in a thin veil of fatty pork. The egg itself was yummy, the smoke was not overpowering, but the yolk texture could have been a little more uniform. The wagyu skewer I did not try but everyone else found it to be melt-in-the-mouth tasty. The salmon skewer was disappointing (rough texture, not too fresh) and so was the bacon-wrapped cherry tomato one.

I chose this because of how pretty it looked on the menu. But it actually wasn't that satisfying. Maybe coz I wanted something more flavorful. The spinach (?) ramen included in this set felt as if it were slightly undercooked but it was chewy - almost hard and I was alright with the texture. The problem I had was with the soup. It was bland and unexciting. The bonito flakes did little to help, because they tasted fishy. Um and the sea bream(?), overcooked smoked sea bream, frankly, was a disappointment. It tasted literally bad because the smoke tasted like second hand smoke. Not the smoked salmon kind of pleasant smokiness. 

Again, the same comment I have with the green tea-soaked rice is that there isn't much flavour to speak of. There were some crunchy rice crispies but that only added some unnecessary texture - I like my bowl of rice the way it is, without crunch, thankyou very much. 

The sweet egg was alright. Quite moist and spongy, slightly on the sweet side. There was also some kind of root vegetable drenched in sesame dressing. I liked the sesame dressing. Didn't like the texture of the root veg. Pork was very very average. Didn't have enough flavour, but was very soft and tender thanks to all that fat. 

Verdict: Not a must-have item at all. Don't order this if you're only going to come here once.

D, D and T ordered the same kind of ramen, so boring poo. Ohwells. At least D ordered the half portion. Um. It's actually not that small. I'd recommend OLs to go for the petit bowl coz y'all have your tiny little dresses to squeeze into. Anyway, there wasn't much kick from the chili paste (maybe my friends only mixed half of the paste into the broth?). The ramen was quite bouncy (good!) and I liked how there was lots of textures and flavours going on inside the bowl. There's spring onion, black fungus, chili paste, garlic...forgot what else. Next time I might go for a bowl of ramen too. Tastes better and is more satisfying than the limited offer set!

You're not really sure what kind of effect they want to achieve putting all the elements together on one plate. Frankly some of it does not work, for example sorbet with soil. Soil should go with ice cream. But I must say that this sorbet is quite nice - no lumpy ice crystals at all. It was smooth, velvety and refreshing. Quite remarkable. Sadly it does not go with soil. I.e. oreo/chocolate graham cracker crumbs. The raspberries were quite sour. The tofu was pleasantly sweet. But as a whole this dessert didn't make much sense to me and I just picked at individual elements when tasting it. 

Conclusion:
Come for the classic ramen dishes and perhaps the skewers. And try to avoid peak meal times coz you'll probably have to wait a long time. Come alone, or with one friend only - you'll get seated more quickly. 

Will return: to have a bowl of ramen to myself, hee. 
Other Info. : No reservations allowed. minimal 4+ seats. Restaurant furnished primarily for parties of 1-3. You don't get to choose the texture of your ramen, unlike at ramen bars.

在中環上班一年多了, 公司附近如果有新開的餐廳都會試一試在公司樓下的這家GOGYO 開業一段時間了一直沒有找到機會去吃, 前幾天晚上加班, 終於去試了一次位於IFC 一期3/F (前身和歌山)的位置, 地點不算人流旺盛不過因為店面不大, 座位有限, 很多時候都是要排一下隊的在等候的期間, 看了一下餐牌, 果然不平宜, 檔次屬於中上等了大概十五分鐘, 能進了~~一坐下, 侍應生很快就來招呼,先來每人一杯免費的WELCOME DRINK (有WHITE / RED WINE / MOCKTAIL 可選)吃完還要回去加班, 所以我們都不想喝酒, 一起點了MOCKTAIL,淡橘色的, 有點橘子加石榴的感覺, 普通, 不算特別主菜方面: 一個赤(半份), 一個白(半份), 一個赤, 五點串燒拼盤, 野菜沙律, 一口燒壽司我吃的是大份的赤和同事的半份比起來, 確實的大一點(如果有點小食, 應該吃半份就可以了= ="")其他的忘記拍照了, 因為其中一位同事需趕快回公司工作,白比赤只是少了辣肉醬, 比較清淡一些所以很快就吃完了結帳時, 侍應說有甜品送贈, 可以先結帳再慢慢吃,這點值得一讚!!!因為不是

其他的忘記拍照了, 因為其中一位同事需趕快回公司工作,
白比赤只是少了辣肉醬, 比較清淡一些
所以很快就吃完了

這點值得一讚!!!
因為不是很多服務生會願意提醒客人這種免費的優惠, WELL DONE !!
甜品是炸紅豆冬甩, 雖然是炸的, 但不是很油, 紅豆餡也不是很甜
沒想到這份免費甜品做得這麼好, 很好吃
整體而言, 食物的味道不差, 但性價比不高, 只會偶爾一試 ~*

品酒活動前想吃點油的打個底。附近除了一風堂,另一家是GOGYO。拉麵控的男朋友不想吃一風堂,只因一風堂的拉麵實在太港式,太不像話,所以試一下新拉麵店。這裡,日本人把拉麵這種最簡陋的食物,推至fine dinning 級,可能很有功架而我不知,但坐下就覺得 combination 有點奇怪。不緊要,食物才是重點。白驟眼看,感覺像一風堂的白玉拉麵。連味道、上菜、叉燒也一樣。湯底不濃,沒什麼特別,我只知拉麵不太熱。吞拿魚他他fine dinning 必有的精緻賣相,有啫喱相伴,但一起吃又吃不出什麼來,反正大家就是同樣淡味,不考究了。百多元一碟味道又不太特別,覺得不值。吃到這裡其實我未吃飽,不想繼續在這裡點其他菜了,所以提議轉場吃過另外一些算罷。其實吃完上網戶翻查,一風堂的創辨人與 GOGYO 是同一人。這一次,我們始終脫離不了吃多次一風堂的命運。

上次來吃下午茶,印象唔錯,今天午餐再來。一坐下便送上餐牌,點了菜後,馬上奉上水和替我穿上紙圍裙以免湯汁彈到衣服及手袋,夠細心。今天點了Shiro Ramen + Salad ($128). 上菜頗快,豬骨湯夠熱,一大片义燒嫩嫰的、不肥,還有少許芽菜和木耳。拉麵中規中矩。沙律菜新鮮、有一小角糖心蛋、少許芝士,特色是加了烤脆了的五花腩條,幾特別,有點和風色彩。其實side dish可選沙律、小魚生飯或壽司,但上次試過魚生不太新鮮,始終是拉麵做主打。走的時候,還提我小心一級樓梯,服務細心,幾位侍應都年輕,值得一讚。為表支持,已約了朋友下週再來。順便一提,平日happy hour的串燒超正,飲品還買一送一,抵食啊!
