Here’s to more steak frites places! Imitation really is the grandest form of flattery! ;)

Benjamin Pitet and Matthieu Lemoine are the business brains and friends behind this restaurant- and they specialize in this absolutely amazing secret sauce (along with their signature steaks.) No hints were given whats in that sauce, but its a must try. For 268$HKD you get a green salad with walnuts, their famous steak and their even more famous green sauce.

We ordered the delicatessen platter, featuring a selection of cold cuts, pickles and mustard, and more. At first we assumed it was this salami platter (above) and we were slightly disappointed. But to our surprise- this is the FREE accompanying salami plate that EVERY table gets if they order drinks!

This is the actual delicatessen platter. All these are very popular from France. They all include pork, and some includes a bit of chicken. The goose and pork terrine was my absolute favourite. Terrine can sometimes be too salty- but this was just right. It was mild yet strong. Loved it. The rest is Bretagne andouille de Geumene, Jambon de Savoie, Rosette de Lyon, Rilette du Mans, Terrine de Volaille

Green salad with walnuts. The dressing is very fresh and light. Its very similar to a olive oil dressing with lemon.

BAM! A closeup of my medium rare beauty. There’s a lot more- but they serve you bit by bit to keep the rest of the steak nice and hot. The steak was on the pink and rare side. But thats exactly what I love. I literally drank that sauce up. I drenched a lot of it onto the perfectly cooked steak. The green sauce was so buttery, smooth and lovely. YUM

In all its glory. The fries were PERFECTION. Perfectly crispy, crunchy and fried. I loved dipping the fries in ketchup or even their secret green sauce. Perfect meal. Steak & fries.

The menu is simple, it starts with a very simply dressed salad with chopped walnuts. Then you can choose either the sirloin steak with its famous sauce and french fries or grilled salmon with tagliolini. I have picked the steak for myself and salmon for my friend. The meat is surprisingly tender and juicy. The sauce is definitely delicious and very new to me, yet i love it.

In general, i have to say i do not only love the food here but also the services. Both owners are friendly, and they really put their heart out to serve their customers. I would highly recommend my friends to come here for gathering, dates or just a simple meal.

Now I understand why they present both lunch and normal menu as the portion of the steak was TINY ! Only 4 stripes of steak and it was not hot when it's being served . Walnut salad portion was also small . Bread was cold and butter was hard . The only good part was the frites, hot and cripsy. Note there is no service charge and service is generally good except the lady who has a tatoo on her leg. She looked lost and came to take our dessert order when we were done eating desserts long time ago.

I opened an OpenRice account just so that I can write this review. That's how disappointed I am with L'Entrecôte De Paris.

Let me just get this out in the open: don't bother with L'Entrecôte De Paris and just go to La Vache, even if you have to wait more than an hour for a table.

I ordered my steak medium rare, it came well-done. The waiter was kind enough when I told him about the mishap. However, bizarrely, he presented me with the other half of the steak which hadn't been put on my plate yet, it didn't look nearly as well-done, but it didn't look medium rare either. Regardless, he said he would inform the kitchen and bring me one that was cooked to my request. Perhaps in fear of overcooking my steak again, a new one was served to me but this time it was rare. Whatever, I let it slide. I was hungry.

Under or overcooking a steak isn't a dealbreaker for me, although for a restaurant that supposedly specialises in steak it's a bit baffling. I wouldn't be writing this review if that was the only fault with our food, unfortunately it wasn't. The quality of the beef was questionable, at best, a strange, battered texture that felt like the antithesis of fresh. The steak also lacked taste. Not only was the seasoning poor (if any) but it also didn't really taste like beef. A fault perhaps our servers tried to hide by slathering the steak with their house sauce, which normally would be a good idea if the sauce itself wasn't severely underwhelming. The presentation of the food was also lacking. You'd think with food that tasted so poor they'd at least try and plate everything well, but no, zero effort. Something that was made abundantly clear as our server lazily tilted the plate of fries to an angle and slid them off the metal serving plate to my own with his tongs. Like I said, baffling.

Our salad was also pathetically small and although the frites were nice and crispy, much like everything else we were served, they didn't taste much of anything.

The one redeeming quality about L'Entrecôte De Paris was the service. Everything else was an abject failure. I blame myself for not being patient enough to wait for a table at La Vache. Don't make the same mistake I did.

The waitresses were very carefull with us, and the French managers were very warm.
In addition we enjoyed a great selection of wine for a very cheap price if you compare to other places in Central.
L'Entrecote de Paris is to me now one of the best value for the French food in Hong Kong, and I can recommend you this place if you want to find the French atmosphere in HK.

I had my first meal here in this restaurant and was amazed by the simplicity of the menu whereby you only had one option for a main course, either steak with fries or salmon with pasta. Considering how limited the menu items are, I was expecting alot for this restaurant..Essentially, it was a superb experience. The steak was perfectly grilled to my liking of medium rare ( a rare feat in Asia) and the sauce in which the owner would not share the recipe, was delicious and complemented the steak. I

The steak was perfectly grilled to my liking of medium rare ( a rare feat in Asia) and the sauce in which the owner would not share the recipe, was delicious and complemented the steak. I could literally drink the sauce as a beverage item if I did not fear having an overdose of yumminess.

But the biggest reason to come and dine in the restaurant is for the service. The two young gentlemen/ owners are the friendliest and warmest people you can meet. The level of warm and care that they essentially provide, makes you feel like part of the family. They talked and joked with you but always on a professional level but personal enough to feel comfortable.

Based on the title, it bears repeating, "come for the steak, stay for the service"

After the successful launch of La Vache and the impending opening of the one that started it all - Le Relais de L'Entrecote - L'Entrecôte De Paris fills the gap. The restaurant is draped in a nostaglic ambience. The antique lighting, tiled floor, and dark oak furniture serve their purpose well, that is, simple, clean and not much to look at. My attention was directed back to the food.

The set menu ($248), consisting of a starter and a main, thoughtfully offers salmon as an alternative to steak. We all (obviously) went for the less thoughtful choice.

The starter, the Walnut Salad is a standard, exactly-as-described mix of walnuts and salad, and a drizzle of dressing. La Vache does a better job. The bread basket also leaves room to be desired. The crust lacks the crunchiness that its rustic appearance suggests and frankly the bread is a little tough to chew.

My fears on food quality dissipated when the mains arrived - hunger took over. My medium-rare steak was flawlessly executed, still red and juicy on the inside, and was smouldered generously with the glimmering green secret sauce, a tangy creamy sauce with a pleasant acidity - our waitress said if she saw what went into it, they would have to kill her. Anyways I'm digressing, five words to describe the steak - each bite was a delight.

Our fries were served in heaps. They were the long slender kind and fried to a perfect crunch. You won't feel guilty while eating it...because it's only after, you realize you've munched down two plates of fries!

Be honest, Steak Frites is nothing new. Nothing fancy. Nothing special. Be honest, Steak Frites is nothing new. Nothing fancy. Nothing special. But-It is extremely difficult to have it done perfectly.Steak restaurants are a plenty in Hong Kong and getting a decent steak isn't so hard in this town. You've got your all American classic Ruth Chris, BLT Steak, through to your specialty French euro style steak frites like the likes of L'entrecote de Paris and La Vache...So, what's the key to a good steak frites? is it the steak? the sauce? the frites? Its all of that + the harmonious combination factor. Its the umami of the synergetic blend of all those individual elements on the plates. Thus, this is how I will review: L'entrecote De Paris.I went at Lunch, the lunch menu consists of a $180 HKD set
- bread/butter
- Walnut salad
- Steak
- Frites
- "Famous Sauce"Bread:
Crusty, chewy, good for soaking up the famous sauce. I would have liked if the bread was warm. Chewy crusty bread is best if its slightly toasty warm. The butter; unfortunately, was stone cold and un-spreadable. This problem could have easily been mitigated if they took out the butter earlier to soften at room temperature.Walnut salad:
mixed lettuce with larger leaves of butter lettuce and nice crispy chunks of walnuts. In general, nothing wrong with this salad other than the portion size is a a little on the weaker side.Steak:
I ordered a medium rare, my understanding is an entrecote steak would be a rib-eye cut. It would appear i got a really small rib eye or potentially half a rib eye steak for my lunch portion. The cut of the meat wasn't really flat nor wide nor long...i couldn't tell which cut of meat I had...it was difficult to get consistent juicy medium rare slices. The meat itself was of respectable quality although the seasoning aspects could have been improved. I am one who likes to have a really crisp salt and pepper sear on the steak with a nice reddish pinkish color, warm throughout on the inside. I think due to the physical piece of steak i had, it was difficult to achieve any type of consistent salt crust or sear. Some parts of the steak tasted more baked than seared...this was disappointing.Frites:
Crispy, hot, skinny frites...nothing to fault here, fried to a nice crispy golden brown and seasoned. Would have liked to have a little more for lunch portion to soak up the famous sauce.Famous Sauce:
A long time debate has been what should go in a good entrecote sauce, chicken livers? cream?, thyme?, thyme flowers?, butter etc etc...the famous sauce here was a little on the "green" side of things which suggests they have used probably more green leafy herbs, it was a good consistency and was well seasoned. Would have appreciated a higher temperature on the sauce as my main course plate wasn't heated. Once that steak and sauce is transferred from their serving platter onto your plate...that temperature falls rapidly. The secret to that sauce staying delicious it keeping the temperature warm. As soon as such a rich sauce like that goes cold, it loses its appeal. I think they did an excellent job on the sauce itself but failed on the execution concerning the serving aspects.Overall thoughts:L'entrecote De Paris is tasty, can't fault them for preparing a decent steak frites. I was disappointed in my lunch portion/cut of steak...I was also disappointed in the temperature of the sauce and sear of the steak...that being said...it was $180 at lunch so you can't ask the world...For people who long to have a cafe de Paris type taste, this is a good bet. Personally, I prefer La Vache albeit one cannot compare the sauces. That’s like comparing apples to oranges. Both are good but in terms of overall execution, as of the date of this review, La Vache wins.
