My recent dining experience at Mato left much to be desired. Despite high expectations, the restaurant fell short in several aspects, including service, seating comfort, and food quality.
Firstly, the service at Mato was disappointing. The waitstaff displayed a lack of attentiveness and had a poor attitude. Their disinterest was evident from their facial expressions and demeanor, which made the dining experience less enjoyable. To add to the frustration, when my friend and I requested water, only my friend's glass was refilled, while mine remained empty. This left me feeling unattended to.
The seating arrangement was also a letdown. The high chair I was provided with was poorly designed and lacked proper support. Throughout the meal, I struggled to find a comfortable position, which significantly affected my overall dining experience.
Unfortunately, the food quality at Mato was equally underwhelming. The calamari rings we ordered, in addition to being disappointingly soggy, were accompanied by a minuscule amount of mayonnaise. Moreover, the ravioli had an unusual taste that was difficult to identify, leaving an unpleasant aftertaste. Furthermore, the charsiu pasta lacked flavor and was surprisingly bland. We were shocked when we noticed the table next to us adding salt to their pasta in an attempt to improve the taste.
Overall, my visit to Mato was far from satisfactory. The combination of subpar service, uncomfortable seating, and underwhelming food left me with a negative impression. I hope that the restaurant takes these criticisms constructively and makes efforts to improve their service, seating comfort, portion sizes, and overall food quality in the future.

I recently visited Mato with a friend for lunch. Before you enter the front door, you may immediately be struck by the beauty of the bar area and the wine cellar. It's defo a beautifully decorated space. The lunch set menu starts from 12:00 to 15:00 (HKD160/pp), including 1 small bite, 1 pasta, 1 dessert, or a drink.


We started with the Japanese minced chicken skewer and heirloom tomato salad (+$20). The chicken skewer tasted soft and bouncy with sweet yakitori sauce. For the main dishes, we had crab meat capellini alfredo (+$40), and char siu spaghetti. Every dish was amazing. I do recommend trying the crabmeat capellini alfredo, topped with salmon roes, crab cream, and crab meat. All in all, from the place, interior, service, to the food, I had a great experience here and I will definitely return!

佢地食物選擇以意式和風餐點為主,當晚都食左好多種唔同嘅意粉,個人最推介係佢哋嘅蟹Crab,滿滿嘅蟹肉蟹膏同三文魚子配上天使麵,牛油香濃又勁creamy。叉燒Charsiu用上日本溫泉蛋,加上日式叉燒,意粉沾上蛋汁同叉燒好和諧。PETSO一定係健康人士嘅選擇,trofie加上green tomato petso後開胃無比。最尾的鴨脾又係要推,個肉質勝過不少做得同樣好嘅法式餐廳。

最後又係不能不推介嘅homemade gelato,四種口味俾我選擇,唔係細路仔,全都要,蕃茄、芝士、expressso、Vanilla,當然各有千秋,但我一定選擇比較少見嘅蕃茄同芝士,愛雪糕的你一定要食,比起城中好多出名嘅意大利Gelato都做得更好食。
