I can't remember when it began but somehow all things Spanish became really 'in'. The football team, Formula racing, FC Barcelona. El Builli, Loewe, Zara, Mango and so on and so on. And of course Tapas, Spanish ham, Spanish food, Spanish chefs and restaurant became the centre of dinning.So I was not surprised when my friends all began to suggest eating Spanish food whenever we asked for suggestions. I can't remember when it began but somehow all things Spanish became really 'in'. The football team, Formula racing, FC Barcelona. El Builli, Loewe, Zara, Mango and so on and so on. And of course Tapas, Spanish ham, Spanish food, Spanish chefs and restaurant became the centre of dinning.

So I was not surprised when my friends all began to suggest eating Spanish food whenever we asked for suggestions. We had a not so good meal at Tapeo for lunch a few months back and this time we went to try Mesa 15 for my friend's birthday dinner. One of my friends had been to the restaurant a few times and know the chef by name, she asked him to create a menu for us at $500 per head. And so it was that we did not know what was in store for us

To start off, we ordered a jug of Sangria and even though I am a teetotaler, I tolerate Sangria and Champagne in small doses.

After the drinks, the tapas began to arrive one by one. The mashed tomato on toasted bread reminded me of our trip to Barcelona a few years ago. It's such a nice way to start a meal but after having it a few times every day for 5 days, we got quite bored with it but it was nice to see it again

Then we had Iberico black hair ham. This was tasty and oily in all the right ways and second only to the one I tasted when Spain hosted the El Bulli chef in HK. We were taught never to remove the fatty bits from the ham, otherwise, it wouldn't taste right

Grilled Iberico pork shoulder was probably one of the best dishes that night, the meat so tender and the taste so delicate. However, in my excitement, I forgot to take a photo. By this time, most of us were full but we were told there were still a few more dishes to come. My friend insisted we continue as the best was yet to come. I suppose she was right as the next 2 dishes were spectacular
24 hour slow cooked crispy suckling pig was not so crispy but the texture of the meat and the flavour was so delicious that we had to each try some. i don't know how they manage to get the fatty layers to sink into the meat but you could hardly separate them and it just melted in our mouths

The final savoury dish was grilled prawns on Paella. I have never liked the chalky rice that is found in Paellas but this dish was quite different. The rice was so rich in flavour and more chewy than chalky that it was a super yummy dish. By now, we were too full even to talk.

Luckily, dessert was light, the Dracula Surprise. It tasted like a raspberry sorbet with some cream or mousse at the bottom, very refreshing on the palate.

Finally, it was time to meet the mastermind behind all the creations, the chef himself. We thanked him profusely for producing such a wonderful meal for my friend's birthday.

我們一行四人去到Mesa 15。這裡的感覺沒有Fofo光鮮潔白。不過呢,另有一番時尚感。我們看了一下a la carte menu同brunch menu,都覺得brunch比較划算。因為已經有飲品(可以點汽酒),3道菜,甜品,這樣叫價$168,在中環不算太貴。再者,就算每道菜分量看似很小,其實同行的男生也能吃飽。我最喜歡兩道菜,一道是白蘆筍沙律,另一道是用半熟的蛋混著黑松露等食材的菜。當然,我覺得主菜的sausage in bean sauce也配搭得挺好的。甜品方面,我點了strawberry yogurt。我覺得yogurt 偏酸,加上又吃的有點飽,所以只吃了所有的士多啤梨。總的來說,我覺得這家餐廳味道正宗,而且分量比較適合我。而且週末的時候人不會太多,適合三五知己坐下一起傾心事。

This place is the polar opposite to its neighbor Tapeo just a couple steps away. At Tapeo, customers sit on bar stools at a long, L-shaped bar counter facing an open kitchen, and are hit with the full force of the smell of food. You come here because you just want to get down to the business of enjoying the food. Mesa 15 is much more chic and upscale, where comfortable seating is available and the kitchen is visible to the customers but sealed behind glass. No fumes. Nice setting for a date

Croqueta de jamón ibérico - lovely crust on the outside, and the filling was surprisingly liquid and gooey. Pretty good.

Las bravas - these were nicely done.

Gazpacho andaluz con queso de cabra y pistachos - a very lovely gazpacho. Nice touch with the crunchy breadcrumbs, as they are meant to add more substance to an otherwise liquid soup. Interesting to find crunchy pistachios and cubes of cheese inside.

Well priced but was expecting so much more.. something special..The overall menu, is well priced, but portions are small offcourse (tapa sized)food is presented esquisitley (special! thats nice).... and the place is very well designed with a nice atmosphere..(specuil thats nice!)unfortunatley was expecting much more of the menu, and the TASTE... las gambas(shrimp) where watery... The overall menu, is well priced, but portions are small offcourse (tapa sized)

food is presented esquisitley (special! thats nice)....
and the place is very well designed with a nice atmosphere..(specuil thats nice!)

unfortunatley was expecting much more of the menu, and the TASTE... las gambas
(shrimp) where watery... (thats not special at all)

and was surprised that they didnt have churros for dessert.. (bad)

I would rather go to Tapeo nextdoor ( which by they way I think was a bold and rude move to
open a tapas restaurant nextdoor to another tapas place... but we will see how this goes)

This slowed cooked then crispened up Suckling Pig is super crackly, the meat underneath tender and flavourful. Its of the modern style interpretation of the famous Spanish Roasted Suckling Pig, and almost up there with the Ole version: the skin here is crispier, but the meat and fat flavouring crown still goes to Ole. Sorry Fofo by El Willy, yours just don't make the cut this time, especially when MESA 15 is nearly half the price and serves similar quality food - may be you could get the f

This is the one dish we'll definitely return for. Not so sure about others though... which was a mixed bag of hits and misses.

我是spanish cuisine fans,稱不上專但有心,曾飛往當地覓食及探奇。此店食品不屬傳統口味,但味道甚好且精緻。Suckling pig好tender但皮很crispy,拌汁也很夾;Tomato bread 算是香港吃過的最好,如像西班牙般讓客自己主理會更地道;Raspberry 甜品有kimmick,內藏爆炸糖。反觀海鮮類一般。
