森川弁当 (English name: Morikawa Bento) has several locations throughout Hong Kong. Mostly geared for take away in office districts, I was surprised to find one in the Wanchai area. Or more accurately, on a street that is more closer to Causeway Bay. I decided to grab something for dinner before hoping on the tram back home. The shop is VERY tiny. It's clearly for take away only. The shop is VERY tiny. It's clearly for take away only. The hot bentos are located in a heated cabinet while the cold ones are refrigerated on the other side. This is the list of bentos that they have. Everything is in English, Japanese and Chinese. There is no 10% service charge at is take away only. As you can tell, prices aren't cheap but oddly enough, they did look like their photos.
I bought the Ajisai Bento ($88). They do provide eating utensils for you (a napkin, toothpick, plastic spoon and wooden chopsticks). The ingredients are listed.
Opening it up, everything looked quite nice and separated into their own compartments. Each item was pretty good but there were no actual standouts. It stayed warm until I got home as well.
I added $5 for a miso soup. This came in a paper cup and powdered soup stock.
I added water and got instant miso soup. I think I'll skip that next time.
Service was friendly enough. Explaining the types of bento that are on offer. I did not notice some were reserved so I guess if you want certain ones, you can pre-order ahead of time. It's a good location, on the way home so I'll definitely be back if I'm too lazy to cook dinner that night.
