不算太肚餓,而且根據以往記錄常常也吃不完食物,還是點少一點,寧願不夠再點。先來的是雜菜天婦羅,因為問過店員這個件數較少,不用擔心吃不完! 雖然我不太知正宗的天婦羅是怎樣,但這裡給我的感覺就非常不錯,炸得非常乾身,一點油膩感也沒有,外層的炸粉亦一點也不會太厚。內裡材料新鮮,吃過洋蔥和露荀都非常鮮甜,印象非常不錯呢。

燒物點了明太子雞翼,煙肉鵪鶉蛋和燒銀鱈魚,明太子雞翼來到感覺略細,不過燒得幾香口,而且雞翼還保留了肉汁,加上鹹香的明太子,味道當然不差。另外煙肉鵪鶉蛋是沒什麼大問題,煙肉燒得帶點脆身,味道上沒有什麼特別,但當然也是不難吃的。

燒銀鱈魚是我很喜歡的食物,每次吃日本菜也會忍不住叫來吃的,是晚這裡也做得不錯,銀鱈魚肉質很嫩,醬汁味道偏淡,但這樣相對較吃到魚的鮮味,不過個人來說會更喜歡味道再濃一點的西京燒。

最後我們叫了澳洲牛肉烏冬,店員問我們要不要稻庭烏冬因為更好吃,那我們當然贊成。食物上檯時店員已幫我們把食物分成兩份,服務非常好。全晚覺得最好吃的就是這個烏冬,湯底是很清的,沒什麼濃郁的味道,但烏冬做得很滑身,比較幼細的,口感非常煙韌好吃。加上那數片牛肉味道很好,切成薄片帶點點脂肪,吃下去有有很濃的肉味,非常喜歡。

最後我們也在這裡叫了兩款甜品,但選擇不算太多,新地有兩款選擇,我們要了其中一款有三球雪糕的,分別是紅豆,綠茶和芝麻,旁邊還有些杏片、藍莓等配料,三款雪糕味道也不錯,味道濃又不會有積雪,夏天吃雪糕最開心。另一款甜品是日本紅豆湯 + 糯米餅,我相信它幾正宗的,因為甜到不得了!!! 通常日式甜品也是很甜的,哈哈,糯米餅煙煙韌韌口感不錯,不過我們吃到一半已覺得很漏很飽,實在不能完成它啦。

整晚服務也不錯,除了開始時等了久一點的時間,之後也沒問題。環境安寧又舒適,算是旺角幾好的日本餐廳,折後價錢也不算太貴,對烏冬印象深刻,實在幾好吃,應該有下次的。=D

四個成年人加一個小孩(另叫了個牛肉烏冬給孩子),吃得飽飽的,連甜品都不需要,總共 HK$1600(Scott 有朗豪酒店食肆會員八折卡),可算是非常超値。

比較起來,TOKORO 的串燒不及 SUMI YAKITORI(炭) 的好味驚喜,刺身壽司不及 KAIKA(海賀)的精緻高貴,但論食物款式多彩、地方舒適、以及晚餐價錢便宜,卻也是値得一再光顧的餐廳。三間日本菜館各擅勝場,當然我心目中的最好,仍然是 SAE 私房菜哩!(見 天上的美食,地上的價錢)

希望能繼續介紹多些好的和風料理給大家!

For all lunch sets, a starter of salad and a tiny dish (mushrooms and burdock) was first to arrive.

I'm actually struggling to remember what there was. But I remembered the lean tuna, hamachi and sweet shrimp distinctively as they were quite fresh. The ones on the left, which I should have asked about, weren't particularly great. They were a little too rubbery and quite tasteless. The rice was very good - plump sticky grains with a slight bite to them, and so was the miso soup - steamy, not too salty or bland.

the broth was very sweet and salty, very good with the rice, but too strong to drink by itself. the beef was overcooked for me, would have been nice if they had let us cook the beef ourselves, but it was already made when served. the egg was also fully cooked, with the yolk fully set, definitely not what I had hoped, so mum had this one.

Dessert which came with our sets was tiny, we would've rather had a fruit or something. this thumb-sized cake-like dessert was dressed with a little honey, I think it was made of some kind of bean - sort of like the green bean paste (yellow in colour) you get in Chinese glutinous rice dumplings.

Overall, there was aspects that could've been improved easily. Portions were very generous, and I would've rather seen less fish on sashimi selection, and perhaps some scallops. The beef could've been more tender by cooking it for a lesser amount of time. Nonetheless, fine for a weekday lunch.

The restaurant was quite empty with only 6 diners including us. We sat down and a waitress came over with a pot and poured straight to our cups. (no idea what was in that =.=). Then the same guy brought 2 menus over and left us there for nearly 15 minutes. FINALLY a guy in suit came over and took our order. No upselling, or explanation of the menu whatsoever (luckily I knew quite a bit about the menu items), we ordered a 3-type sashimi platter, 6-piece sushi platter, edamamme and grilled stringray fin. Waitress named "A" came with 2 bowls of something and left them on the table (found a piece of hair in it btw...) Surprisingly, no one prompted over and asked for our drink order. Finally, I waved down the guy in suit and ordered myself a draft Asahi and a bottled Yebitsu for my boyfriend. We ordered our main slightly after we started on our appetizers. We ordered the Saga A5 Beef, Japanese Pork Belly Skewer, Lamb Chop, Prawn Tempura and 2 Udons i.e. Australian Beef Udon and Poached Lobster Udon, accompanied with a bottle of Rihaku Junmai Ginjo. The only highlight of the restaurant will be this bottle of Sake. It's smooth, floral and very easy to drink. Food were satisfactory, above average I would say. But the service was ridiculous terrible that I will never go back EVER AGAIN!

值得一提的是個白飯,米飯粒粒圓潤飽滿,質地軟熟,不一會便可清掉;愛吃飯的食評家,更是連吃兩碗才肯收手。

跟餐還有個什菜串燒,其實是燒冬菇和翠玉瓜,再灑點木羽在上面。翠玉瓜爽口,冬菇清甜稔身,同樣可以。

最後來的甜品,不知是什麼名字,反正係半件Macaron夾著一片士多啤梨以及綠茶慕思組成,伴邊的是芝麻醬、紅豆粒,還有一枝幼身的朱古力條。香脆的Macaron加上清甜的士多啤梨,仲有幼滑的慕思,是意想不到的好吃,而濃郁的芝麻醬配上充滿豆香的紅豆粒,又是令人滿意。這個甜品,比任何一款的咸點更勝一籌。

吃了個多小時的午餐,談到了不少美食的問題,實在學到很多東西,這一餐最有得著。

The Tokoro is one of my favorite Japanese restaurant for its location (centrally located in Mongkok), quality of food, and attentive service. Plus, this is one of the few great places in Mongkok where you don't need to line up to get a decent table for dinner!

This is a dinner date to celebrate our first month wedding anniversary and I must say that it was the perfect place to impress your date. The restaurant and the staff made great recommendations and everytime we go, there's something new to try.

Of course, there are staples that we won't miss like the robatoyaki cod fish and the salmon or plum chazuke.

New at this visit, we ventured into ordering the seasonal kinki fish. It may look ugly in the photo but it sure is delicious with its sweetness and light fattiness. The plum (the green balls on the side) that came with it was perfectly paired to cut the greasiness from the natural fish fat. The fins are coated with coarse salt before the fish was grilled to enhance its looks. The presentation was perfect! If only the meat of the fish is slightly more salty, it'd have been perfect.

As a treat from the animated Japanese chief chef, we were served each a piece of juicy japanese melon and Sapporo beer ice-cream made in-house. It was wonderfully refreshing and the balance between the full cream and beer was perfect.

Although our dinner was on the pricier end, it was worth the money as we walked out happy with a stomach full of delicious and interesting food. The chefs (quality of the food) and the staff (attentive service) at the restaurant successfully elevated our our dining experience.

"LOBSTER & EGG UDON IN BROTH" -
I normally prefer colder udons, but in winter you really need warm broth to go with one to coincide with seasonality. So anyway, it doesn't matter, let's try their lobster with broth udon quality! The Lobster pieces were more like boston lobster in texture, but cooked really well - the egg mixture it was mixed in also was very tasty! This bowl of noodles is around $160, but there was a lot of lobster meat, way more than I had expected. So how about the 足打ち烏冬? This was really good, with an enviable chewy, irregular texture that is hard to come by in HK, make that nowhere else. I would say the udon wheaty flavour is not as strong as the ex-Northpoint shop when they had hand-made udon. I miss that shop, or the different styled Inaniwa noodles @ Elements. I ordered this to pair with my lobster dish, instead of the buttery Chardonnays flight which normally works better, I was keen to find out whether Japanese styled lobster dish pairs well with the 1 African & 2 New Zealand Sauvignons. THE JAPANESE CHEF IS VERY STRICT WITH HIS COOKING AND FOOD, AS I OVERHEARD HIM COMMANDING HIS SOUS-CHEFS TO GET THINGS DONE CORRECTLY AND TO PREPARE FOR THE CRAB FEAST TOMORROW, ETC... THIS STUBBORN BUT APPRECIATED APPROACH TO FOOD WAS DEFINITELY DETECTED IN MY DISHES. We ordered:
Sashimi: Jet-fresh flown Scallop, Sweet Shrimp, Salmon, Hamachi
Eel rice set (with miso soup)
House Cold Tofu
Hot Inaniwa Noodles in soup

First arrived were some japanese amuse-bouche: seaweed, marinated cucumber and octopus in a light ponzu broth.

Then arrived the sashimi - apart from the scallop, we were satisfied with all of it. The scallop was a disappointment because they weren't very sweet - sushi bars give bigger juicier ones! Also, at basically $140 per one scallop (in shell), this was a total rip-off.

The Cold Tofu came with a soy-dressing, some bonito flakes, shredded seaweed and scallions/ginger, all which complimented the tofu very well. It was a little pricey, but this is a hotel restaurant afterall.

The Eel Rice came after a while (what took so long?), and my only complaint is that the rice was not 'dry' enough, and the eel could have been hotter. Apart from these, the taste was very nice and the miso soup was also very good with baby shimeiji mushrooms.

The noodles came last, again after a period of time, but the broth was very good. It had two pieces of japanese fishcake (the pink and white ones) inside, and the texture of the inaniwa udon were silky and slightly chewy - very good indeed!

I hear this place is better for lunch as their lunch set deals are much more worth it. The dinner sets here ranged from $450-$950.

This was actually on the Bar Side but all food items on the menu can be ordered from the Dining side.
WINE:
They have wines which are obviously selected deliberately, however the list is not huge rather that it suits all palates with a great varietal range. Very smart wine list. The Happy Hour offer is only limited to around 3-4 types of wines, these were a bit ho-hum in my opinion, as I tried 2 French Chardonnays and 2 French Bordeauxs.
They also offer Flights of Horizontal Wine Tastings BUT this does not have Happy Hour Special - so beware. I ordered this regardless as they carry my favourite Pinot Noir Flight Trio - consisting of 1 Malborough (New Zealand), 1 Burgundy (France) and 1 Victorian (Australia). Its strange that initially the preference was clear cut NZ>France>OZ, but along the way there were changes and at the end when they have opened up and after that changed profiles again after contacting more air, it evolved to become the opposite, namely OZ>France>NZ. Overall, these were not top Pinots but they're quite user friendly considering they're of newer 06-07 vintages.
*Unlimited Savoury-Peppery Popcorns are provided during happy hour.


FOOD:

Yakitori Chicken with Japanese Leek - The real test in any Kushiyaki or the broader Robatayaki shops. This was seasoned perfectly in my opinion, just the same as Japan. Its the Sauce version not the Salted version, the sauce wasn't the usual commercially available ones. In fact this seasoning tasted the most authentic I've tried in Hong Kong so far despite Japan also having many styles, and it also had some but not much chicken taste intact. Unfortunately - it was a bit tough and chewy.
Chicken Soft Bone - This was seasoned a little bit differently from the Yakitori somehow, a bit more potent. Its hard to judge this - everyshop does their version differently. I thought it was above-average.
Beef Tongue (No Pic.) - This was also seasoned really well, as good as you could get it in Japan with a bit of sophistication. I can't tell you why or how, it just has more depth of flavour. Unfortunately, this was again a bit tough and also a bit thin. Appeared like a recurrent problem by now?
Shishito (Little Green Peppers) - Here, grilled with a bit of soy-based sauce and topped with Bonito flakes. Bit of grated ginger was given on the side. EXCELLENT, done the perfect way.
Japanese Leek - Rather than using the Leek's hearts and chopped perpendicularly, this was the whole width of the leek but cut on a steep angle, seasoned without sauce unlike most of the above. This was also great.

Seems like the Seasoning of the food here is really spot-on. However the grilling technique or the meat quality can be much better, the latter wasn't anywhere as good as Jun Yakitori. If you could just combine them somehow!
May be I'll be back to try again, as I liked the very well balanced seasoning enough that I'll give the whole experience a high '4'.

近期係晚上用膳。食物水準不俗。但平心而論以呢個價錢講可以有更高享受。A5 佐賀牛口感十足,做到入口即溶。而個牛肉烏冬可能係個人口味,只是一般。環境不錯但只望商場,而waiter 既服務好好。尤其個日本廚師會主動打招哹好nice 總括而言,如果係追女仔可以去呢度,追左就去番朗豪坊好啦!

I ordered a sashimi set lunch and my colleague got a tempura set.


The presentation for both sets were very nice. All types of sashimi tasted & looked fresh. I wasn't sure about the taste of the tempura, but my colleague said it's good.

Apart from the main dishes, i love those appretizers they served. There were 3 different kinds - one is the vegetables, noodles with some deep fried stuffs on the top and Tomato + mushroom 串燒。

The meal ended with an extremely nice dessert, the red bean (love the japanese type of red bean dessert!). Nicely decorated and to match with the season of Cherry Blossom!

The environment was nice and quiet...good place for lunch!

同事介紹過tokoro兩三次話唔錯,不過未有專登光顧,因為心諗酒店日本菜平極有限,尤其家陣市道唔好, 慳得就慳, 直至上週末舊同學聚會竟然無里頭去左食lunch (唔係我話要去!)因為竟然有個舊同學去過話ok唔貴,是旦啦跟大隊. 去到我無點菜, 朋友發版叫菜, 起初我剩係食...基本啦 ...前菜魚生壽司天婦羅樣樣都有叫(d魚生幾新鮮!),不過朋友話一定要食燒物,聽落原來爐端燒係此店強項,於是我都忍唔住出手叫o野,總共叫左6至7樣o野...燒羊架,澳洲牛肉,日本豚肉好impressed,因為真係好好味(剛剛燒起即食,真係正!), 仲有燒雞泡魚干,好特色,真係有d回味. 食下食下,最後真係食左好多o野.都幾飽,最後AA我個人比左$200有找,以食物質數同份量而言,真係抵食,一定會再去.啊!順帶一提,服務人員真係好有禮貌所以好心刻!
