It's my birthday diner. A good friend of mine took my mom and I to this very unique restaurant. Neither of us have been here. And OpenRice viewers have given it some good reviews. Since time is of the essence, I called in ahead of time to make reservation. The waitress was nice and she asked me if I would like to reserve a few dishes just in case. I asked her what is popular and delicious for most first timer. She told me some long name chicken that most people would try. I am a chicken
We arrived a bit late cos it was a bit difficult to find. The neighborhood is very warm. Most shops close at 7pm already. Plenty of parking on street in front of rest.
We found the restaurant and i love its ambiance. Feels as if I went into a home designed in the 70's. Nice looking entrance with customer seatings in the "living room". Open kitchen in the far end. we could see everything cooking. NICE!
Expectation shot up high right after walking in here. Menu was on a chalk board that was a bit hard to read but most dishes caught my attention. They looked delicious already on the board. We ordered another Pork dish and seasonal vegetable in fish soup.
The pork dish came first. It was good fatty 腩肉 cooked in 南乳. It was deliciously done. Can't eat it w/o a bowl of warm rice. The vegetable was also very good. Would recommend these w/o hesitation!
Then it was the highly expected chicken (see photo below). It was baked for hours before served. It looked really nice. Skin was baked to golden brown. It looks crispy. The waiter took it back to the kitchen to have it cut. I took a piece of the thigh and it was VERY DISAPPOINTING. for some reason, the chicken left a bitterly taste on my taste bud. As the matter of fact, the bitterly taste later ruined the rest of my appetite. The worse is yet to come. I was quite shocked by the price of this chicken when it was time for the bill. The freaking chicken was $428. The waitress who took my reservation simply introduced the most expensive dish in the restaurant to me. I blame myself for not asking but i also thought the receptionist could have done this more professionally. I felt as if i was ripped off.
Afterall, the experience was okay. Just make sure you asked for the price on all of the reserve in advance dishes.
