Restaurant: BAI FUNG BENTO (Hysan Place)

To promote a new salt and sugar reduction (RSS) dietary culture and living style to the people of Hong Kong, the Environment and Ecology Bureau, the Committee on Reduction of Salt and Sugar in Food and the Centre for Food Safety of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department have launched the "Less-Salt-and-Sugar Restaurants Scheme" ("Scheme"). Restaurants participated in the Scheme will offer less salt or sugar options to the consumer or even tailor-make less salt or sugar dishes in designated restaurants. It was not our first visit and it was time to grab a quick dinner here after a while. It was in the food court of Hysan Place and it was located at the very corner.When we arrived around 6:30p.m. on a weekday, it was quite full! It took a while to line up to order our food and then another short while to get our orders.Like last time, we decided to order one noodle and one rice bento to share. A drink included three types of tea which we didn’t so fancy so of course had to top up for the signature Taiwanese drinks! We also ordered a side dish to share.

紅燒牛丸牛筋麵 at $64

The noodle we ordered was 紅燒牛丸牛筋麵 which we encored after our last attempt. The three beef balls were exceptionally good as they were super juicy and of the perfect texture to chew! Obviously 誠意之作!When I bit them off into half, the juice jetted out from my mouth! There were loads of beef tendon which were cooked very well too. The noodles were super al dente - my favourite texture indeed! The soup was slightly spicy and was very appetising yet not overly oily. There was a big piece of carrot, radish and two pieces of 小棠菜 which were all fresh. They served the pickled veggies separately. Very good, just like last time!

The deep fried chicken leg was super hot and burnt my mouth! The skin was super thin and crispy and the meat was tender and super juicy. It was well seasoned too. There were plentiful quantity for the side dishes which were all seasoned well especially the fun si. The other two side dishes were Chinese cabbages and corn with minced pork in addition to the pickles. So quite a healthy amount of veggies. There was half a marinated egg too. Quite a big bento indeed. Although I was never a fan of rice, I found the plain rice pretty yummy with the sauces too. Great bento!

皮蛋豆腐 at $20

The tofu was served cold topped by a lot of 木魚碎,  with some oyster sauce and spring onion to add flavour. There was half a slice of 皮蛋 which was pretty elastic. Ingredients were fresh. Quite a refreshing appetiser indeed.

芝士奶蓋紅莓果茶 was very fruity but not overly sweet. 芝士奶蓋碳焙鐵觀音 was reasonably concentrated but not too much. It tasted good of tieguanyin indeed. The cheese made the drink much more smooth! Yummy!


Overall, I think the quality of the food was even better than last time. Prices were quite economical. Will definitely come back later.
