After Saturday night drinks on High Street, my girlfriend and I were craving some hearty authentic italian food. We stumbled across Trattoria Caffe Monteverdi and were immediately captivated by the traditional homely decor. .As we browsed through the menu the waitress served us warm bread and also explained the specials of the day. .For starters we had the sicilian caponata which was a good warm dish of eggplants, celery and other vegetables. For starters we had the sicilian caponata which was a good warm dish of eggplants, celery and other vegetables. The mix of sweet and sour refreshes our palette for the primi and secondi.

For primi we opted for a special of the day - the angel hair with duck ragu. Instead of the traditional beef ragu, a duck ragu brings a more sophisticated aroma and adds a rustic touch to the dish. The pasta was cooked to a perfect al dente and was the best companion to the salivating ragu sauce. I can only say I hope this one makes it to the regular menu.

For secondi we had the pan fried pork chop in Tuscan style which was a signature dish of the restaurant. It did not disappoint. The inch thick pork chop was wonderfully pan fried and was succulent and juicy on the inside. The accompanying heirloom tomatoes, beans and cauliflower makes the dish visually pleasing as well.

To top it all off we had the zuccotto for dessert. It was a creamy and delightful sponge cake filled with chocolate ganache and cream. It was light and just the right amount of sweetness to complete an authentic Tuscan meal.
