My first ever Banh Mi! Happy to be able to try it in this authentic Black Sheep restaurant. It is also located right next to big sister store Le Gargon Saigon. The store is really small with only 3 bar tables, I wanted to dine in but there was this pair of native Chinese ladies occupying it although they have finished 😬

I had to wait 5-10 minutes for my Banh Mi because there was 3 people before me although it was passed peak lunch hour (1:00pm) which shows this is quite a popular place.

Banh Mi Ga // Chicken Banh Mi $98

Shredded chicken, mayo, chicken liver pate, pickles, spring onion, cucumber, coriander, chilli, soy sauce

This was still delicious after 15 minutes in the bag. Definitely should not be labelled ‘shredded chicken’ as they are humongous and juicy, not thin and shredded. The tender pieces of chicken thigh with five spice seasoning (I believe) has an intense pepper-y taste. The chilli is very strong in some bites which heated up my mouth so I suggest you omit it if you cannot stand the heat.

The crusty baguette is soft and chewy with a crisp exterior. It was not soggy even though I didn’t eat it fresh. The bottom part has chicken liver pate smeared on it which is smooth, savory with rich liver taste which will is not for people who don’t like organ meats. I loved eating it with the bread alone.

The pickles are also quite spicy but acidic, providing another taste and crisp texture to enjoy. The spring onion has a pungent punch to it when you eat it and paired well with the fresh coriander. The ratio of everything was also surprisingly spot on. It looks like it is 80% pickles but there is actually way more meat than I realised and you can eat the pickles alone when you want a refresher.

One thing I dislike is how everything is separated and in big chunks and my mouth isn’t big enough to eat everything at once. However, this does mean I got to try different combinations of flavours. Bread with chicken; bread with pickles; bread alone.

Next time I wanna try their five spice fried tofu!!

推介 ⭕️

💬 Overall, very small restaurant but big flavours. I also love how they do a Banh Mi du monde every mouth where a chef creates their own signature Banh Mi. On the other hand $98 is quite expensive for a sandwich but it is Black Sheep…

The service here definitely does not match up to their other stores but it is understandable.

Another thing I want to mention is that they (and their fellow Black Sheep Restaurants) do not accept Alipay.
