Meeting up with friends from out of town, someone decided we should eat at Moon Lok Chiu Chow. The place is located at Mira and serves a more modern version of the Chiu Chow classics. It's the sister branch of the more famous Pak Loh Chiu Chow which is a favorite of mine.

We ordered a number of dishes to share between the nine of us. My friend's friend took the liberty to order everything without consulting anyone so I have no idea what the menu even looked like so I have no idea if it's bilingual. She was also the one who chose the restaurant so I assumed she had been here before.

The  Chiu Chow assorted marinaded platter. It was a bit weak in flavour. You do get slices of goose breast, egg, tofu and pork belly. But oddly, the marinade wasnt strong enough. Perhaps this is the modernized version?

The braised tofu pot was a bit on the salty side. Plenty of tofu that soaked up the sauce well along with lots of mushrooms.

The oyster omelette was a super disappointment. One of my favorite Chiu Chow food, this was mostly a clumpy starchy mess. Not a lot of oysters as well.

The sweet and sour fish were delicious. Flavour was just right. The fish was cooked perfectly.

Deep Fried chicken was also very good. The skin was crisp and not too oily. The meat was still juicy. They also deep fried the seaweed.

The deep fried fish was a bit dry and over cooked.

The worst was this? The deep fried noodles pancake. Generally a favorite at Pak Loh Chiu Chow, this place made a complete mess. It was soggy and not crisp. This was the only thing that was unfinished.

The food here wasn't as good as the original Pak Loh Chiu Chow. Food was lack luster and some items missed the mark. Definitely wouldn't want to come again and will stick to Pak Loh Chiu Chow instead.
